White faced Daytona - Zenith 16520 vs 116520?

Hi,

As well as looking for a 1680 Red Sub I am also considering what to do with my 116520 White faced Daytona...

I had a 16520 White face (1997) and had to sell for reasons beyond my control, for me I prefer the black background of the Zenith as the Silver background of the later watch gives less contrast / impact...

What do you think is a sensible price difference bewteen the two if I were to try and trade? The 116520 is Mint with B&P.

These are intended to be 'keeper' type decisions, Ultimately my wish list is (Milsub aside):

x2 Daytona's (16520 white face, 62xx Daytona)
1680 Red Sub

The 62xx will be some way down the line as I can't see how I have £20k+ at the moment

Cheers

I like the looks of the zenith better but some of the older one's have very junky bracelets.

Get an A or P serial Zenith - they have the final improvements (SEL bracelet, luminova dial and hands) before the change-over. I like the Zeniths because of the brushed lugs and subdial placement, also the hour markers are thinner.

Yes a P serial would be nice... But not the be all or end all for me over a mint watch

The sub dial placement isn't a reason on it's own I would change for but I can understand those who prefer the symmetry

But the black sub dial background colour of the 16520 is

Also the fact that lugs on a 16520 were not polished had passed me by but definately a plus as well as I intend to get a seperate bracelet with a non polished centre link so I can actively swap between this and my (future) 1680 red and wear the darned thing and spend less time worrying about it.

Sorry pardon my ignorance what is SEL?

How does the Luminova of the later models differ?

Cheers

SEL or non-SEL is not a deal breaker for me. The 1680 you are looking for is non SEL, the Daytona you have has SEL. It is the last link on your bracelet that attaches between the lugs. Some claim that the non-SEL tend to rattle more, but happen to disagree.

All of the watches along the top are non-SEL, all the watches on the bottom are SEL, except the Tudor on the right.

Thanks again for the replies

OK I have had a closer look at the bracelets on my 16600 (93160A) and my Daytona and I see what you mean about the SEL.

Is the SEL an investment cast part or similar process then finished?

So previous to SEL they would have been a folded / pressed part?

Also I now understand the luminova comment as I hadn't realised they were still Tritium up as late as 98' 99'.

Also I was confused by this image an apparently std 16520 (being sold as std anyway) but the dial is not, I assume this has simply had the dial changed for WG version?

Also I have seen several photos of white faced Daytonas which look like they have black fingers? Is this just they way the light has caught the fingers? Or have they also been added later?

Apologies for using an image from another site, please delete if considered inappropriate to do so

Cheers

And here is my (Purchased in 2006) 116520 'D Series' :

This is the start of my watch photography journey, I will probably post a seperate thread to try and get some advice to improve my (lack of) technique.

16520 every time for the black subdials and unpolished lugs. Fantastic movement too. Have owned both models. Personally I found the 116520 blingy.
