Rolex - when is the next price increase?
I am looking at purchasing some additional watches this year. Do any of you have an idea on when the next price increase will come? I hear it was originally scheduled Jan 2012 and Feb 2012 but was put on hold.

When the next increase is unsure but you can be pretty sure there won't be a price decrease.

The last price increase happened as you were typing your original post, the next one will have occurred before you even get a chance to read this.

There will always be price increases, just no telling when it will actually occur.

yeah that is what the AD told me so I guess they were telling the truth which is unheard of in Miami. I know Audemars lets their client know 30-90 days in advance and Patek they give them a 30 day heads up as well.
I remember when the retail on a Submariner was $4000.00 in 2004 and now we are at $8000.00 8 years later so I am expecting $16,000 in 2020, $32,000 in 2028 and $64,000 in 2036. With the same formula I guess that puts a special edition Masterpiece at $1.2 Million. |

I asked a big-time Rolex AD once about it and their reply was that they do not know about the price raises until they get a FEDEX overnight letter/package with the info in it.

The next increase comes when the AD gets the certified letter from Rolex saying to increase them. Anything more than that is purely rumor.

I also heard that the dealers cost went up on February 15, 2012 but not the MSRP. Anyone hear the same? What is your guess to their cost? 40% off on gold, 35% off 2tone, 30% on stainless would be my guess.

I got a call back in response to an email I sent regarding the service / info I received from my local AD, today. He said that Rolex are turning the screws on AD's in order to stamp out discounts as much as possible, or so it seems. Apparently Cartier did a very similar thing a year ago.

AD would easily earn a comfortable margin of 50%.

50-60% margin for AD is quite common.

I think Rolex will only increase the price in 3Q 2012, at least judging the economy performance from the global economy for 1 half of 2012.

Not exactly- instead of paying the 60% of retail price they used to pay they are now going to pay 63% of retail price so their margins have decreased.
* it was either 3 or 3 1/2 % increase to AD cost-can't remember and don't feel like looking it up!

That is very interesting stuff. In my area most wholesalers seem to pay 30% off and sell at 20-25% off to the public (if you negotiate) so the 37%-40% off dealers cost makes sense.
I'm guessing the margin can still change per model since you find some items like green/green submariner discounted at 5-10% and a yacht master at 20%+. |
