Why would you take the chance of damaging it or getting it stolen? If he inherited that means this is more than just a watch. It's a piece of family history now.

As others have said, please use good common sense. If it has alot of sentimental value to you, I'd be very careful where I wore it. Monetary value is easily insured and the watch can be replaced. Sentimental value on the other hand, can never be replaced.

Ok I wear it everywhere but school I find a good watch is beter than being electronically dependent for time keeping but thanks for the advice it's kinda funny because I went to work the other day and my boss was bragging about a timex until I bought a battery for my friends relic wet watch and a girl was like is the battery was for my watch and I said no mine doesnt take batteries it's a perpetual and I live in the sticks if you can't tell but they were like what the heck I ain't never heard of a watch without non of em bateries I was laughing my behind off when they called the boss and he brought out a magnify glass to observe it p.s. You know your school better than me. A good friend of mine had a Rolex...in high school! (He was proud of the fact he earned the money to buy it himself!) He wore it all the time. Never a problem. But that was a long, long time ago. I think you should take the advice above. Insure it, and then wear it or not, depending on your good judgment. Most likely, nobody will notice it, but there are those stories about kids being killed for their Air Jordans.

I wore a Rolex in high school. Wear it. Then again I also drove a 2 year old Corvette a Plymouth Prowler, SL 500 and my Moms S500 regularly. No issues.

I work in a high school. Private, all boys, from good families etc. And this is in Japan, too, so you would imagine theft would not be a big issue. Stuff gets stolen all the time. Students DO notice what other students are wearing, and my two cents is to say don't ever wear the watch to school, leave it at home.

I wouldn't wear it to school. If you're questioning it's safety then you'll be thinking about it rather than class. I don't wear my Grandfather's omega anywhere that I would even be slightly worried about it. It's always in the back of my mind.

I'd would recommend leaving it at home. My son is 15 and he tells me G-Shocks are all the rage. Kids notice everything. If everyone is wearing a colored plastic G-Shock and you roll in wearing SS it will be noticed. Will the other kids care that you inherited it? No, they'll just be murmuring that you're a show off.
Can you wear a watch during gym class? You wouldn't leave it in your locker would you?
Every year before classes start the school sends home a letter telling kids to leave anything valuable at home. Jewelry, iPods, smart phones, special edition sneakers, money... They don't want to be responsible. They aren't responsible - they know it and don't want the hassle.

Wear it to school if you like, but 100%, no doubt talk to your parents and have it added to their homeowners policy. The chances of it disappearing are 10 x's more likely in that type of atmosphere.
