opinions please on rolex in 2012
Hi all, just been thinking ( dangerous i know).
Rolex seemed to have updated most of the line in the last 5 years so my question is what is next.. what will we see at basel? I have no idea? My only two thoughts are: 1)Could it be an all SS Blue ceramic sub? 2) could it be a pepsi/ coke ceramic GMT? Apart from that i am all out. any thoughts?

Don't know about SS blue Sub but I would say def no because they aren't making a $8 model that looks identical to a $34k model. I don't think it's possible to make a ceramic Pepsi or Coke bezel from everything I've read on here. I would say 99% no chance either of those happen but what do I know. LOL

I think a Ceramic Pepsi or Coke GMT could be interesting but I doubt Rolex will ever release a blue SS Sub. To me the blue dial and bezel are supposed to make a clear difference in between an all SS Submariner and one with some gold on it (whether it's a bit of Yellow Gold, all YG or WG).
Having said that, what about the infamous gold Explorer-II we've been seeing around here (thank you Photoshop!), I think that would be a very interesting move in the dress sporty watch line.

There is NO WAY Rolex will ever create a SS blue sub. Period. This is due to the fact that they have the WG blue sub and for marketing reasons they leave it exclusive to that. If they made a SS blue sub, the sales on the WG would drop drastically. Long story short, it will never happen.
As for the ceramic bezel coke/pepsi on the GMT, its possible, Rolex is definitely trying to make a colored ceramic bezel, but its not easy due to mechanical reasons... So we'll see.. I could imagine a SS daytona ceramic bezel would be something they might reveal at Basel! |

I'm pulling for a GMTII Ceramic Pepsi but it doesn't look promising. I overheard a briefing about what is happening in Basel and sadly, that wasn't discussed.
Lets hope that news is so spectacular they've kept a lid on it until Basel next month. One thing I predict will be coming eventually (with no inside knowledge to support it): The no-date Sub needs a makeover. The band is obsolete and needs the slidelock upgrade. |
