New Daytona at Basel?

I was just about to pull the trigger on a white dial Daytona SS (I have been offered one) when a friend of mine says "maybe they'll bring a new version out at Basel". So now I'm wondering whether I should wait for a few weeks and see whether there's an announcement?

I suppose the Daytona could be in line for a revision soon. They've done the Explorer II, GMTII, SD & Sub. But they've also brought out the ceramic Daytona recently which is still on the Rolex website as a new model so perhaps that was the new version for the Daytona range.

Anyone know something I don't or have a better view??

no one knows. how long can they hold the 116520 for you? until 8th of March (or 7th - the pix should be out after the press conference)

there is a good chance for the TT ceramic Daytona this year.

TT Daytona with Ceramic?

Not sure about this one. Anyone know of a cool looking Chrono TT / Black bezel???

Not sure I'd like that.

"cool looking" is a personal taste thingy....

judging by Mr rolex's previous years' efforts, it is likely that it is the year of TT ceramic Daytona

I am a newbie here but I too am in the same boat. How long after Basel are the new watches actually released to the public?

Normally late Summer/Autumn. Most will start arriving in August/September

If it comes out at Basel, mostly will arrive the AD after September in big cities. But there will be another waiting list for it again. If I were you, I'll buy the white daytona ONLY if you really love it but not it is update or not.

If and when they come out with a new Daytona, what effect will it have on the older models' pricing? Will they be more in demand since they are no longer being made or less in demand because everyone will want a new one?

I think they will up the MSRP on the new model, add that the AD's will hold the new Daytona's hostage... so I think the current models will likely stay the same price. In reality the 116520 is far from a rare watch, so price increases on outgoing models would be unlikely... IMO...

I agree with you since Rolex recently raised the price on the Daytona to cut out the grey market. It is probably like the new SubC where the price is higher so the old ones did not depreciate.

I think you're safe with the Daytona purchase for now...likely won't see the upgrade to the SS model until 2013 for the 50th anniversary....also, it seems to me that Rolex will update sports-model watch cases as follows over a 3-year period: Y1 - Gold, Y2 - SS/Gold, Y3 - SS.....just my observation.

Hasn't the Daytona line already been modified with ceramic bezels? What else is there to do other than change the size? They've made them available in many dial and strap/bracelet combos, so other than increase the size what else remains? (Not that a size increase wouldn't be unwelcome...)

I think the current 116520 Dayonta will eventually be the classic. The revised ceramic whenever it arrives will be very different from what we have now. That I believe will only increase the desirability of the current version. My suggestion is go for the SS Daytona now!

I agree. Get the old one now if you love the watch. It is going to be a classic.

I recently sold my ss Daytona. I'll much rather have a ceramic insert one that won't get all scratched up

Only Rolex knows for sure and what people think they might or might not come out with is pure speculation. It isn't real until it happens. You will just have to wait a few weeks to see.

Get the Daytona if you like it, you may not like the new offereing and if you do the values hold up pretty good on these if you fancy a switch when they become available.

I would always choose because you like it not because its more recent, I struggled to find an unworn dot dial PAM 233 as I don't like the new am/pm face. = get it while you can.

Good luck

i dont fancy the new daytona with black ceramic bezel
the metal bezel (white gold or stainless steel) looks alot better
imho, the value of the 116520 will only shoot up when it is discontinued and replaced by a black ceramic bezel version
