The new or old daytona?
Which one do you prefer and why? The new in house movement daytona or the old el primero daytona? Which one is actually worth more? And is there any collectible status for the old one?

Myself not a huge fan of the modern Daytona but myself prefer the Zenith dial version over the in-house version. Both fine chronograph movements main advantage the in-house has a much higher power reserve.Myself don't believe in collectable status,as I buy the watch I want to wear. But at present time the Zenith has a premium price over the in-house version and would expect to hold its price in future.

Bigger fan of the newer one. Probably because I have a newer one. I think either are pretty nice really.

The movement improvements in the 116520 make it just a bit superior IMO. That being said, I prefer the dials on the Zeniths with the higher contrast sub dial surrounds.

Quick question.... Didn't the Daytona first get the (ETA) Valjoux 7750 movement?
Or just on fakes?

For me the question would be, Is the new watch worth many more $k's over a used one in great condition? The answer is definitley NO.

16520. Brushed case, timeless dial lay-out. No engraved rehaut.

Problem is...the Zeniths are oftentimes MORE expensive than the newer in-house Daytona's.

I love (and own) a black dial Zenith A-serial Daytona. I decided on the watch after considering the newer model. I liked the 16520's brushed lugs and I prefer the Zenith subdial layout and markers.
All that said, I prefer the pre-2000 Rolex aesthetics a bit more than what's been released the past few years. |

Just fakes - the Daytona has never used a 7750. The original Daytonas used a Valjoux cal. 72, before switching to a Zenith ebauche for the 1652X series, and the in-house cal. 4130 for the 11652X series

Though I prefer the white dial in the Zenith movement, the in-house movement has my vote. One of the best chrono's out there.

The newer 116520. The Rolex in house movement can't be beat. Considered by many watchmakers as the best chrono movement ever made. The new clasp and lume is also superior. I've been told its also less expensive to service because it's in house.

I think the main benefits of the new 116520 vs. the Zenith 16520 are the much longer 72 hour power reserve, the far superior solid end link bracelet and the easylink clasp extension, and finally the "hack mechanism" on the new 116520- where the second had stops when you pull out the crown, just like any other modern Rolex.

PN Daytona is THE one to have. Otherwise, go with a new one.
