Crown Guard Comparison

I' like to know more about crown guards between late 60's 1675's and Red 1680's. Seems when I look at these examples, the crown guards are thicker n the 1675's. Is that because the 1675 crowns are smaller or because the Red 1680's (or 1680's in general) are over polished.

Or is there a manufacturing difference?

Pete
