Question from new (confused) member

This board is totally confusing, but I'll try again to get an answer that was asked on the "Member?" board...

I was given a Rolex by a widow that belonged to her husband. I have a copy of his death certificate and only know that he bought it in Palm Desert a few(?) years ago..This was his second Rolex as his first was lost or stolen and never recovered...

How do I get myself registered as the owner now?...or does it make any difference..a local jeweler opened the watch and gave me the registration #...

So where do I go to get the owner "changed" to Me..Is there such a place or site or?

Thank you in advance for any help and I hope that I can find your answer on this confusing labyrinth site...

You can't get it registered in your name. The original registration is for warranty purposes. Since the warranty is over there is no need to transfer into your name.

Now how is this board confusing??

I'm not the ultimate authority on the subject, but that is what I have been told in the past.

Lucky,

We're sorry to have confused you.. Sometimes we're not always sure of the question..

There is no "Central Rolex Registry"

Rolex Corporate keeps a database of their serial numbers and which Authorized Dealer (AD) it was shipped to, and when it was first sold. The first sold date starts the warranty.

The AD keeps any local records of who they sold it to.

Rolex Corporate also keeps a database of each time this particular serial number is serviced. If you send it to them for that service, they will, in turn, give you the service paperwork in your name.. And that service will be recorded in your name.

Hope we've been able to de-confuse you..
