1951 Rolex Oyster Perpetual Explorer 6098
Anybody know about the Super Oyster system? I have been trying to pin down the duration that Rolex used it. I have been told 1953, but now have seen ads on eBay that are both from 1951, and my watch has serial numbers from 1951, plus it has the Super Oyster system. Was told that it was discontinued quickly because the system was faulty. Crown kept coming out because it was push-pull, and water was getting in often enough to cause the company to go back to the traditional screw-down system. My question is did they ever completely abandon the screw-down system, or did they use both side by side and simply phase out the Super Oyster system when it proved faulty? Any info. on the prototype Explorer would be helpful.
