Interesting Email

I don't know if anybody here saw this, but last week somebody posted a Pepsi GMT in the general rolex discussion page. They sounded like a typical scammer and were promptly removed. I got the guys email an asked for pics of the watch because I wanted to see how he responded. He sent two pictures of what look like a genuine Pepsi and his asking price was 3k. I then didn't respond and this morning got this email:

I understand the fact that you really want to buy the watch but as
we are both not feeling save and secure about this
deal ,but i think am going to give you a trail i mean some
kind of trust i will send you the Rolex watch first and see how
honest you are,.but before i do this i will like to be very
sure you have the money ready before i ship the Watch so i
will like you to show me a proof before i proceed
further to shipment, just send the money for the watch to any name
you wish and any address in UK and send me the receipt of
the transaction as soon as i confirm this ,i will ship the watch
to you and when you have the watch you can then go back to
western union to change the receivers name to my name so i can
have my money.in this case you will be able to check the
condition of the watch before i get my money ,i think this is
save and secured enough to make a deal, reply now with your
delivery details

This guy is a scammer right, there must be a way for him to get the money under a different name or something...

That's probably one of the weirder scam attempts I've seen.

...hmmmmm...

...I think about TWO HUNDRED of us should email HIM and ask if he has anything for sale right now and REALLY MESS WITH HIS MIND...

...we can always BLOCK his emails if individually we think he is becoming a nuisance.

Proof

I think it's a scam after you send the funds to any name they will optain a fake ID wich is easy for the scammers and will cash the money from Western Union.

I would have him provide proof of authenticity from the store watches of Switzerland.

If this in the UK, how far apart from each other are you? We're a small country!!!

Simplest way is to meet at a Rolex AD for them to check it out. You can then obtain a bankers draft from your bank to hand over as they are as good as cash once the AD gives the green light.

But I would run away from this.

I'm not in the UK and I'm not actually considering doing this. I wasn't really interested in the watch but was interested in testing the scam. If you are interested in it I can give you his email and you can try to meet him at the AD as this seems like if it's good it would be a great price. I suspect you won't hear back from him after suggesting meeting at the AD though.

if it involves western Union it is going to be a scam.
The best advice I have seen on this site is - Buy the seller. This guy is a fraudster.
This is what will happen. You wire your mother, brother or friend the money. Then as proof, you send him the reciept as proof you had the money. He contacts Western Union claiming ythe money was sent it to the wrong bank by mistake. Western Union resend the money to him. You get nothing. He gets your money.
This will end in tears as someone will fall for it. If he sends out 100 emails one person will go for it.

Too easy to run a scam through WU. If he was really showing some kind of faith, he would use different payment method

I don't know if you'd be interested in scamming the scammer, but I've enjoyed reading stories of those who do. Here are a couple of sites:

http://www.419baiter.com/links.html

http://www.419game.net.tc/

The second link came from the first, which is a series of links. There are some good folks out there who spend a lot of time masquerading as dupes, and sometimes they even get the scammers to send money, or do paintings, show up for meetings where they are photographed.

What you could do to scam this guy is literally send some money to a real friend, or even to yourself, just to get the paperwork. Then scan and photoshop it with a fake name and address, then print it and send it to the scammer, after which you hound him for the watch. Maybe someone else can think of angles to make this more interesting. Wish there were a codename or fake name that would give him away, make him look foolish trying to get the money at Western Union. Maybe "Donald Duck" or "Iam Anidiot," so when they ask his name, he says, "I am an idiot."

Obviously I am not geared for the technicalities of remaining subtle yet engaging someone to fall on their face, but if you get a chance, read some of the scam busters. They're hilarious.

Here's another one:
