Why have the used prices on the 16610LV risen so much lately?

Seeing a big increase on the second hand market for the 16610LV.

What gives?

Relative rarity.
Finite supply.
Killer looks with the green or black insert.

It will never be a cheap watch to acquire but neither will it be ultra expensive. Too many pampered examples out there for that.

Only made for 7 years. That makes it one of the shortest production runs of any Rolex Sub. Demand and supply...

prices on everything have gone up over the last two years.

used daytonas are up about 2k over the last 2-3 years
GMT II and SubDate used to be $3500 pretty regularly 18 months ago... now $1-2k more than that!

Cost more but no so dramatic, still avaliable on a right price except Y,Fseries.
I ve predicted very nice increase in the next five years but not only lv but all 5digits references, all looks great, solid like a brick not so touchily and wrongly designed that the recent ones.

Of course, but there always seem to be plenty for sale here. They appear to be more plentiful than ExpII's (which is what I'm shopping for to little avail).

Not plenty enough. The higher prices indicate a demand that remains unfulfilled. Call it Internet hype. Same thing happened with the SD a year ago.

I was offered the choice between the LV and my 16610 back in 2008. I was still new to high-end watches at the time so I suppose I chose a more classic look with the 16610. Nowadays I am not so sure I made the right choice.

Some ADs couldn't get rid of the LV back in the day. I would say these could be had for less in some instances. My, how fortunes change.

It could be a an indirect rejection of the new Ceramics. PEople are realizing that Rolex used to produce quality pieces in the past.

The Daytona wasn't a big seller in the seventies either. Typically it's the real bad sellers and low production watches (LV) that are rare and then become extremely popular for some reason. Oh how things change.

Well there is most certainly thousands more LV subs in this world today than say like the vintage 6263/5 Daytona.Afraid no Rolex modern day is rare maybe just produced in smaller numbers but rare no.Rare for me is less that 200 units world wide thats rare. Not a thousand plus LV subs and all basically the same except for a few very minor fonts and very slight colour inserts over the years. But today the Internet hype is the main driving force to drive the prices up, much like the infamous so called mistake dial or stick dial GMTs were but now they are just past history.

The LV is a great looking watch, I gave one to my son about a year ago and he tells me almost everyone remarks about it more offten then when he wears his 16613 Two Tone Blue. I have also been watching the price of the LV and seems to be on the rise.

It is basically sellers trying to cash in on less informed buyers. Mass produced for 7 years, wow, that does make them rare.

I have seen this sentiment many times on the board and i just dont get why the 50th, in particular, seems to get slammed so often here.

if market prices are too high in one's opinion, it must be due to internet hype?

same thing with the SD?

i just dont get it - why wouldn't the default assumption simply be that people like it, they want it, and the re-sale prices are rising.

its well established just how many of these models are out there - do we really think the fractional proportion of buyers of all of those that are available would even follow forums like this to even be exposed to any hype that would then impact resale across the board of so many pieces?

these hype theories never make any sense to me

These forums I think form a micro market for such watches we consider collectable and therefore we in ourselves drive the prices up

They are not made any more, I think Rolex sold more 16610's, so maybe less of the LV were made.......it's not personal, just business, supply & demand.

When I was visiting ADs in 08 looking for my graduation present at every AD they tried to sell me the LV. I always saw them. Even offered good discounts. I waited and got the DSSD. Looks like I'm a
