Milgauss Clasp
I have been researching getting a new watch and I think I am down to my two finalist. A White Milgauss or a No-Date Submariner.
My number one choice of the two is the Milgauss because I love the Orange/White contrast and the clean lines. My only concerns are that the crown doesn't seem to be protected like on the Sub. is this a major issue for a watch that will see daily use but nothing too brutal? Also, the clasp design seems like it would be be prone to opening easily and the closing mechanism might break down over time. From what I've seen on YouTube and in here the clasp seems to snap into place but does not have the extra fold-over locking mechanism. If I were only keeping this watch for say 4-5 years I would not worry but I tend to keep my higher-end watches forever and wanted to know if the clasp on the Milgauss uses a spring or how it closes. A few other questions: ~ Does the Milgauss have the new, all solid links bracelet? ~ Can you put a Sub or GMT styles clasp on the Milgauss? (I've been getting mixed results from online searches) ~ Why is the White Milgauss selling for so low on the forum? I've seen it for $4,500-$5,000 even though my AD want's $7,150. Does it have problems that make it a bad investment? I know many, many people on here will say to get the No-Date Sub first but I like that the White Face Milgauss seems rarer and it looks great in my opinion. Thanks in advance for your advice. |

Hey Ray!
Hey Ray!
Only thing I can say is welcome, oh, and I like the Milgauss! Nothing wrong about it. It's just not well sought after and a decent deal is sure to be had. (Everyone else will vote for the no date, I bet. )

The are not sold by Rolex directly, but they do pop up from time to time on the sale boards here!

And THANK YOU for helping a newbie out. My only other concern is that the crown doesn't seem to be protected like on the Sub/GMT/Explorer. Is this a major issue for a watch that will see daily use but nothing too brutal? I think I am 110% set on the Milgauss now that I know I can get a better clasp for it. |

You will love your milguass and you will meet a lot of interested people as it is not seen in the wild as often as your standard sub. Don't worry at all about the crown on this watch. It's a big sturdy crown (you will know what i mean when you have it in your hands to wind and set the time) it feels rock solid and unless your doing some extreme sport there is no way you will break it. White is all class! I have a black one but if I could turn back time I would grab the white. Post some pics when you get it and make sure to get a great deal here on trf! |

Ps the clasp is more sturdy than you think. As long as it is not too tight on your wrist you will be assured with the click of the clasp and it's going nowhere.

Sounds like your sold on the "gauss"! I say jump on it.
Now that you have mentioned that you love the white and orange you got me thinking you would like a white face explorer II.... Not to throw a wrench in your plans lol but that also has crown guards.... Enjoy |

The clasp is fine. I too had concerns about it since I already own GMT and I expected the clasp to be the same. In any case I never had any issues with the clasp. It is very secure and solid. Go Milgauss it is a great piece. |

The crown is sturdy, no worries there. I have the GV though I like the white also and am thinking of adding the green sapphire to one in the near future. I think you will like the clasp also.

Re the crown, it doesn't seem to be a problem. I think if you were in a situation where the crown might be broken off, I would think that your hand and wrist would be a bigger worry for you! |

The clasp is fine, I've never had a complaint about mine.
Tough choice you have there, if it's your only Rolex or "luxury" watch I'd go for the 14060M, Milgauss seems to me a better 2nd Rolex that your only one.

ELITEVIDEOGAMES Kxux byeedo and caryyee have answered the questions for you
To reinforce their statements, I have had my black face Milgauss for almost two years, and I've never encountered a problem. (Not babied either) Over the last 30 years I have owned 2 - GMT's, Sub date, Exp2 and a Datejust. None of them were pampered either and all performed flawlessly, however the Milgauss is my favourite. Its solid, extremely accurate, easily legible and best of all, not many know its a Rolex! You'll love it |

while the clasp is an improvement over the old 78360, it's never going to be a GMT or Daytona..
i've managed to flip open the Milgauss clasp on a few occasions, but i believe not everyone is as clumsy as me I bolted a Daytona clasp on my Milgauss to avoid any further mishaps..

I think the 116400 white dial is going to be one of those "Why didn't I buy one when they were so inexpensive" Rolex watches if and when Rolex pulls the plug on these slow sellers, like the older Milgauss variants.
Got mine back in 2008. Got the other two versions also. Bad pic though, taken just before dumping the collection at the back of the work safe. |

If you worry about the clasp of Milgauss, then go with Sub ND, its that easy :)

I have the GV - no problems with the clasp, never once has it unbuckled on its own.
Regarding the White - not a popular piece which is why it sells for less.

Hey Reymond, I have the White Milgauss and I think you will love yours too!
Your question about the links being solid, I believe they are, it feels super solid to me. I don't think you can put a SubC or GMTIIC bracelet but for me you don't need to do that, the clasp feels very secure. I tried all models before pulling the trigger including the 14060M and it doesn't beat the Milgauss in my book, I guess because I'm not the vintage type guy. Good luck and post some pics soon! |
