Did anyone else happen to see this episode of Nova on PBS?

As the website says, the program "examines the thousand-year old art and science behind the making of a Japanese warrior's signature weapon."

I found it fascinating.

Even if you missed it, there's lot of good stuff on the website: Secrets Of The Samurai Sword.

If you're into "the stuff of metal," I think you'll enjoy this.

I saw that listed, Downing, and I was going to watch it, but I got involved in a DVR'd special on Gamma Ray Bursts (seriously!!!

) and missed it. Is it being rebroadcast anytime soon?

Allan, I don't know. I've got it Tivo'd, so I didn't watch it until last night. I'll try to remember to check my Tivo when I get home tonight and let you know.

Sorry, Allan. Per my Tivo, that episode of Nova isn't going to be rebroadcast, at least not any time soon. The search capability for Tivo, mine anyway, is about six weeks.

It's possible that your local PBS station may be rebroadcasting it, though, as the PBS stations sometimes carry different shows at different times.

If you ever get the chance, I highly recommend it.

I was busy the night it was broadcast and didn't record it; but I went to the website and ordered the DVD. It's backordered until 12/10, but it will be worth the wait. Metal absolutely fascinates me. I guess I should have gotten a degree in metallurgy. I'm 66 and too old to put another degree to much use, but I'm seriously tempted to go back to school and get a metallurgy degree. Yea, I'm a geek. Even my geek daughter who has a Ph.D. in molecular biology thinks I'm a geek. What are ya gonna do.

Anyway, I can't wait to get the DVD on this program. Thanks for prodding me into ordering it

I did see several programs on the subject over the years and really fascinating how they purify, shape and finish the metal into something no company in the world could do!
