I ordered for my cousin a GMT2c few years back. Got a long waiting list. It was a super hot model during that time. Waited few months and price increase few weeks before watch arrive. AD says 'take it or leave it' at new price.

Did you leave a deposit to secure the sale?

Had similiar discussions with an AD before I landed my GMT.

I'm never sure how true this is. I've had trying to track down a SubC but I couldnt even get to look at one. I enquired about ordering one with a deposit, but they said even then they couldn't guarantee rolex would allocate them one and either way I was 4th on the list. Plus if it took 2 months for them to get me one, any price increase would be paid by me even though I had already paid the deposit! This kind of thing doesn't happen even when you order a car, the original price should be honoured.

The AD implied the daytona wait list was pages long too!

AD did not ask or demand for a deposit but when the watch arrived, my cousin was abroad, that's when they asked for a deposit to make sure it's mine. Understandably, if you're not taking it, others will, just a phone call and it's sold.

... And that's exactly why he told you you'd need to pay the increased cost!!

I rest my case.

As much as he was ordering it in on the basis that you would buy it, their was no deposit left, which would have secured the sale and the total cost at the time of ordering!

That's also why you would have been able to walk away when it turned up without actually buying it and not being penalised, i.e losing a deposit.

fyi there have been several examples on these boards in the past year that have the AD Not honoring the deposit price after a price increase.
it is an ugly practice but it appears to be standard with rolex AD.
AD's that don't play by rolex rules are systematically being yanked.

as far as the human factor, all to often, your just a number at the AD.

Ok fair enough.

It's a dogsh*t practice and I wouldn't have it personally.
