Hello everyone,

I've been lurking around her for a few months now and I'm looking to buy my first Rolex. I really like the changes to the new Exlorer 2 but I also really like the price you can find on here for some of the older models. What are your thoughts/suggestions/recommendations?

Or maybe he means the Explorer?!?!

I was at an AD the other day and they had both models (old and new) in stock - IMHO there's no contest - the new one just looks so much fresher somehow. That said, I would imagine that the size is a big consideration, have you tried them both on yet? Good luck and happy shopping!

My 2 cents:
Black dial: new explorer
White dial: 'old' explorer
The fit and size of the old ex2 is amazing, my most comfy watch. But Travis says the same of the new one. One major issue: price! Another: old one is stealth, new one is eye catcher!
Both are great, so.....

They are very different IMO, you need to try them on, I prefer the white dial on both the older and newer model.....

I agree; if you can put both on and see what sings to you, that's the way to go. That being said, IMHO, a 40mm Explorer II is the best deal you can get on a used Rolex sports watch right now.

It's overtaken the DSSD for best current stainless steel Rolex IMO....

Updates are superb.

I'm a big fan of the last generation of ExpII's. If you are looking at a 10-20 year old version, they can be one of the best bargains for a Rolex sport model. Very clean design, very tough watch. I bought one for each of two sons, just a few years ago. It's also a near perfect fit on the wrist, IMO.

I have a few of the older Explorer II's, both white and black, and I love them.. They get a lot of wrist time.

However, if I wasn't busy blowing all my money on other stuff, a new 216570 would find it's way into the box..

I like the older version better than the new one, it's more comfortable and lighter. Also you can get a killer deal on a used sample in excellent shape (way under $4k USD).
