Great Rolex Sighting in the Wild (paramus, NJ)

We often hear about Rolex spotting going bad, so I wanted to post a good experience that happened to me this weekend.

Sitting in the Capital Grille in Paramus after perusing some watches in Tourneau (I have no idea how they still actually sell watches). I am waiting for my girlfriend to arrive as I enjoy a tasty glass of Jack Daniels. I spot a Gold Chocolate Dial Day Date. I typically do not hesitate to say anything at all, but after a few sour threads recently, I had a moment of "can this go bad"?

Well, it went quite well by literally saying "I am sorry to intrude, but is that a Chocolate dial Day Date"? It went so well that the guy was literally taking off his watch to pass along the bar to allow me to try it on.....without me even asking. He goes on to tell me about his collection and I learn he bought this latest masterpiece along with a new Yachtmaster II in the same day. The guy has one of the nicest collections I have ever heard about. And he is just a super nice, down to earth fella. A very impressive guy to be sure. (I told him about TRF so hopefully he will be on here someday....maybe even reading this)

Thirty minutes later (my girlfriend is there already, but she is used to this as we have been together over a year now)......some other dude sits down to the other side of me wearing a beautiful Panerai (sorry don't know the reference and they all look alike to me).

For the next hour we are all sitting around talking watches. It was a really awesome WIS moment. I know there can be jerks out there in the wild, but we must persevere and find the good ones.

In my humble opinion, life is about enjoying these types of moments. And boy oh boy, did he have a beautiful watch.......Along with the WG Daytona, this is my someday grail......

Nice experience. I grew up in Bergen county down 208 a bit and there are some great collections in the area (especially watches and cars)

Very cool, sounds like you had a great time.

Not everybody maybe so nice, but I find more often than not I've had a good experience.

Sounds like a good experience .. Something like that happened to me yesterday .. I was having dinner with a group of friends to celebrate my birthday and a guy recognized my watch and asked me about it .. I spent 20 mins talking watches with him before I realized I had better get back to my party .. I usually wont talk watches with people I dont know, but this guy was super nice, and he seemed to know more about my watch than I did

Sounds like the best way to ensure one has a pleasant experience with other watch owners is to not try to strike up a conversation at Starbucks?
