Interesting to hear it marked very easily. I ofter wondered about the depth of the coating & if over time and constant wear the platinum would wear off to show the black ceramic underneath. Your scratch seems to be lighter coloured to the coating. Maybe it will come out if given a good clean with a very soft toothbrush ????
I hope it doesn't get under your skin too much.. We are all allowed our moments of madness :) |

I'd go with warm water, soap and a toothbrush. If the coating is that soft, the bristles should definitely sort it out. Failing that, only you know about it and I'm sure the RSC can easily fix it.
Hell, my one is barely two months old and is exhibiting battle scars already! A couple from the zipper ends of my gym bag, and another one after a night out with too many beers/shots..... |

FWIW, after doing the "damage" I tried to use my fingernail to "buff it out". Nope. The material is harder than dead human tissue. Due to the fact that my fingernail couldn't change the appearance, I highly doubt a toothbrush would.

A good reason why I would never consider buying a used Rolex.

Sterling...
I don't know what you do for a living...But it sounds like you may be an engineer...like myself. So...maybe you can understand this better in a formulaic manner: PAPERCLIP + ROLEX = DEPRECIATION (and a whole lotta stress on someone who's anal retentive enough to be an engineer) I think everyone's allowed a stupid moment every now and then... But for God's sake...on your ROLEX???? Well...it's not like you poked your eye out or anything... Live and learn... |

Well, not for anything else, but I found this to be pretty funny. So the scratches arent a complete mishap, at least you were able to amuse some of us by telling us this somewhat funny story. This just cracked me up:
"then inside the fan vents in the CPU". |

For what it's worth, Sterling, you've made me feel better about dropping my SD in the shower!
Seriously, in your place I'd give the RSC a call and ask what can be done if I'd accidentally scratched the bezel (obviously negelecting to mention the paper clip). They might well have already worked out a refinishing procedure for it.

NAH! It's all good. I mean, yeah, it kinda sucks, but it's barely noticable except under the right light and correct angle. Plus, scratches happen -- shit happens, ya know? Let this just be a lesson to all. Don't mix shiney metal objects.

Ah well, there's no rest for the wicked, but idle hands do the devil's work - you're damned if you do and damned if you don't.

Just leave it for now unless an AD will clean it up at no charge. Take care of it at the next service.
I wonder if the RSC have the means to fill the dial with platinum since the watch is so new? |

I'm guessing they'll throw away the whole bezel and give him a new one. My RSC has just ordered 10 new bezels just for me!!

Since there's not a lot to lose at this point, I bet it could be burnished out with an ordinary pencil eraser.
