About the Macan....all these sharing between Audi, VW bin parts. It's NOT a Porsche anymore! Just bc you rebadge a Tiguan or baby Audi SUV witha Porsche emblem and a few changes inside and out.

it was first referred to as the cajun, if i remember correctly. i guess they swapped the "c" with a "p" since they are porsche.

I would rather a Tudor than a Cayenne, Pajun, Macan or Panamera. Come to think of it I have a Tudor and it looks and performs great. Glad this thread has got some runs, sometimes I think people like cars more here than watches. Sorry will wash my mouth out with some Pajun.

I looked at a Porsche while I was car shopping a couple of years back, but the rather rapid depreciation scared me away from buying new. The boss ended up telling me I needed something that could seat four and drive in snow, so I ended up with an Audi..

Cajun must be built from the Q5 chasis - looks a lot like one. Not a fan of any Porsche SUV though..

I'm another heretic 996 owner. When I started considering getting a 911, I first looked at the iconic and irreplaceable 993. I was lucky to have found a guy who took excellent care of a 40th Anniversary Edition. It was love at first sight and although there was the specter of RMS/IMS issues looming, I committed myself to take care of it and so far, so good. I'm planning on installing the Raby Engine IMS Guardian system just for additional peace of mind.

I am not in love with either the Cayenne or the Panamera's LOOKS. Having driven both, they are outstanding machines. I'd compare the Rolex Skydweller to the Panamera for many aesthetic reasons. I would not be interested in owning either.

I'd compare the 911 to a GMT. Complete, beautiful, classic.

And yes, my 9 year old LOVES driving around in the 911. And my friends laugh when they see a child seat in the back for my 2 year old girl.

I love the new 991. It truly is an amazing car--fit, finish, ride, speed.

Have owned a bunch of 911's, and this one tops them all.

I absolutely love the timeless 911 models and I'm very fond of the Caymen too.

I've never been a fan of the Cayenne and the Panemera looks ridiculous in my opinion.

When you already have an iconic image as strong as Porsche, changes in design can be a very dangerous thing....... This is why strong designs rarely get modified to any great extent (Rolex being a prime example) and even though from one model to the next you will find Porsche saying all of the panels are now new..... there will inevitably be very little change from a visual point of view to the layman...... It's only when sales start to slow or a new car on the block starts to take market share that more serious changes occur.

But I believe Porsche owners like this...... One of the most annoying things can be spending a big chunk of cash on a new car only to find 2 or 3 years later a new completely different design is available.

My first car after starting work was a BMW 323i which I loved..... 2 years later the 3 series changed completely and mine was old news!!! Never bought a Beemer ever again and never will......

Whereas Porsches are almost timeless, and to the layman you can have a 10 year old 911 and still feel you have a current model.....

The performance of a Porsche is unquestionable and I personally prefer an evolving design process rather than dramatic design changes every few years. After all, they depreciate badly enough as it is.......

Have you driven the 991?? You cannot even tell there is any electro servo steering to speak of.. It's a fantstic ride, still gives all of the feedback you want, with more amenities... Even the standard exhaust on the S, non sport burbled growled and sounded fantastic, and that pdk? LOVE It!!!

PS, am I the only one who loves the Cayenne and Panamera? I had a Panamera and LOVEEEEDDDD IT! My e60 M5 however is way more fun

Agree, to an extent..

Key word, will kick MOST P car asses, because to compare apples to apples would only be fair.. A z06 will obviously stomp a cayman s, however the cayman is 100x more balanced and a drivers car.. Hence it beat the z06 in the best drivers car challenge

Z06 is a fantastic ride, for sure, I like them a lot but to me when comparing to its equal counterpart and comparison in the Porsche world my gt2 is just 100 x more connected/visceral and sharp... The vette surely is fast and handles pretty damn well now, but is blunted in driver feel through that steering wheel, which I hate!

Anyway diff cars for diff drivers, all great machinery.

Let me ask you though, and it's a serious question not being a D, did they fix the oil sumps in the z06's? I know a lot of them were having oil starvation and blowing motors on the track??

Porsche was ruined in 1974. Impact bumpers made a beautiful design look like a diving board.

Of course everything 75 and down rusts like crazy.

Im posting up a link for the fastest Nurburgring Nordschleife laps. The "North Loop" is known for its 73 hair raising, very fast, dangerous turns.The gold standard for testing the best factory stock sports cars. The Corvette Z06 comes in with a more than respectable 8th place showing. Thats faster than every street legal P-car with the exception of one, the latest GT2. The Z06 is faster than the earlier GT2's. The Corvette even bested the pride of the German company, the latest pinnacle GT3.

Driver feel, balanced, blunted are all subjective, personal things like, what won a magazines "best drivers car challenge"(which the Vette was faster around the track with turns than the Ferrari 458 Italia, GTR and GT3, all the cars in that test for that matter). One persons balance isnt exactly anothers. The Corvette is not a drag racer meant for 1/4 mile runs. Its a world class sports car that handles with the worlds best. Give credit where credit is due.

I've got to say that if you think the styling has gotten lazy ( personally I love it), the 997 turbo kicks it up a notch from all angles, especially side and rear. After a half hour drive, it takes another half hour to get the smile off my face!

I think the OP is more upset with the dilution of the product line than the actual design. I think the 997 was every bit as beautiful as the 993. I wont get into the actual differences, but I am speaking purely from a design point. The 991 looks incredible too, and like others have mentioned, the interiors are nice. They also outperform all their predecessors.

Ive driven the both the panamera and cayenne and for what they are, they are nice cars. I dont care to see the porsche crest on their hoods, but do remember that their high margins subsidize RD on the Porsches I love, so I begrudgingly accept them.

I would say that both the corvette and Porsche can offer over the top performance and I think that a very large part of who can beat who and when is directly related to driver skill and experience as few of us have the skill and consistency of the text drivers, etc.
I do think that the Porsche is more prone to making a good driver appear exceptional and is aesthetically more elegant in most cases.

Did you miss my post above with the Nurburgring list? The Z06 was also much faster than all the other 'drivers cars' in the post iiGT2 referenced.
Heres another list from C&D's Lightning lap series. The Z06 and ZR1 bested all Porsches at Virginia International Raceway.

Maybe you're talking about tooling around at 40mph on a slow windy road on a Sunday afternoon with grandma sitting next to you because I have no idea what you're talking about, but where the rubber meets the road and drivers push cars to the limit, Corvette is a force to be reckoned with. I think most people who drive real sports cars will admit, Corvettes can indeed "keep up with Porsches on curvy roads".
