Is there a PAM for me?

Well a couple months ago I let go my beloved 312. I LOVED the watch - it was comfy on the wrist and the strap was to die for. Liked the crown, etc.

It wore however way too high at almost 19mm thick. It was top heavy.

Is there a thinner 44mm PAM out there that would fit my bill for an automatic timepiece? Love to hear some thoughts or pics!

I had the same concerns about my 312 and eventually ended up with a 177. 44m titanium but manual wind. I have come to really like the manual wind Panerai. If that doesn't fit the bill maybe you should consider an automatic Radiomir.

My two favorites would be the 111 and 233...

Radiomir 287.
Really sits into the wrist, has a proper cushion case.
Rock dependable 7750 Valjoux.

I really became used to the weight in a short time, it does it sit more comfortably on hte wrist and the crystal isn't domed.
I'll measure the thickness tomorrow if anyone's interested.

cheers

Autos will always be thicker.. If you love the 1950 cases, take a look at 233, it will not sit as high, decent looking, with the 1950 case, and a disireable manual wind..

If you like the 312 (but found it a little too top heavy) then you will probably find the 233 a slightly slimmer and better fit. Its an 8 day manual wind - which is also deliciously smooth.

yeah, i had a similar experience. i was first drawn to PAM by the 312, but it was a bit too thick for me and didn't sit right on my wrist.

per your post, in terms of thinner 44mm automatic luminors that come on a strap and are in the current catalogue, you have three choices:

104

164

240

i ended up going with the 164, which had elements of the 312 that i liked (brushed case & polished bezel, quick strap change system, date, automatic), but, you'll have to make peace with the arabic dial and cyclops (i did, as i think both give the dial a very nice balance). it definitely wears thinner than the 312 and is the perfect PAM for me.

If it's in your budget, go for the 233. The 233 is slightly slimmer than the 312. It's not an auto, but a killer 8 day manual wind movement, so you only have to wind it up once a week or so.

I did the EXACT same thing. 312\351 are a miss from Panerai, they look good on the paper and people comming from more mainstream Rolex models love the 312 since it's Panerais most mainstream model. But it's way too thick, even though your AD or wife tell you otherwise.

To get the real Pam feeling and DNA, go for a manual wind, no dato ( a cyclop on a Pam is just wrong), historic model. They wear great!

+1 agreed!

Manual wind no date no seconds is Pam DNA. The 372 is IMO the embodiment of Pam, but it's too big for some people.

I have the 176, brushed titanium, sits low on the wrist and super lightweight. My only gripe is that the hands are black trimmed. I think if the hands could be swapped for the metallic trimmed hands of the automatic model, it would be a home run.

As mentioned, try a 372. You'll fall in love with it.

351 is much lighter than 312.

372 is ideal if you ask me--that would be my choice.

As stated already, the autos will be thicker. The 372 is the perfect combination of boldness and comfort, it's a 3 day manual wind (which I love). It's slimmer on the wrist because it's manual and has elements of the radiomir's cushion case as well as 1950 case.
Or, you can go 176, 111, 177, or even zero. Best bet is to try on all the models that floats your boat at an AD and you can't really go wrong.

if your wrist, and your wallet can rock a 372, then go for it, if your wrist cant but your wallet still insists, then 233 will be perfect.

The 233 definitely wears smaller than the 312. And has the domed crystal, a very beautiful watch.

I did the same. Moved from a 312 to a 233. That did the trick for me.

I love the 312 but I the 372. If 47mm works for you that is the one I would buy if limited to one.

manual wind for panerai always feels better. it doesnt move around. if you must go automatic go for the luminor case non 1950. automatics are really thicker but with a good strap it will not be uncomfortable.
