My wife's grandson has gone nuts over my 40+ year old albums

He played Alice Coopers Schools out album ....the one with the panties inside.
about 5 times in a row since he does does have a record player.
Last night it was Robin Trower Bridge of Sighs
His own words is this stuff is F***ing awesome compared to crap of today.
He is 18 years old now.....
He told how lucky i was to be born in the mid 50's....i told him yeah i know....not much fun to be old now but Im sure glad i got to see lots of it before it was gone.

Can't wait for my son to get there. He listens to the worst rap. The lyrics are so immature as if it's made specifically to be bought by 13 - 15 year olds. Oh yeah, it is.
"Hehe, he said ***** in a song... Snicker snicker giggle."
I don't know how these 'artists' take themselves seriously willfully catering to the junior high school crowd.

Your wife's grandson sure has great tastes in music Greg! Robin Trower and Alice Cooper did write some classics!

P.S.: Not to put an end to the party guys but let's still show an open mind! I'm almost 22 and do not listen to any Lady Gaga, Drake or those artists who make music nowadays because I prefer the classic Clapton, Led Zeppelin, Hendrix, Trower, Jethro Tull (I won't name them all but you see where I'm going). Still, I won't call nowadays music crap because it's always a matter of tastes, I'm sure a lot of you said something like that to your parents when you were younger.

similar note:

since I am a single parent and now that his mom is deceased, no one can stop me..

so kiddo was introduced the other day to a little Ozzie, some AC/DC, vintage Def Leppard, GNR, and Alice Cooper.

But then I realized half those songs have been in Pixar movies now :-(

I still remember to this day when I found my parents' Dark Side of the Moon record. Introduced me to the world of music that has surrounded my life for, ugh, a gazillion years now. Trust me, I was the MOST immature kid in the world, but I never turned down good music "because it was old". Hate hearing kids say that. On the flip side, I'm so thankful I never got into rap when I was a kid. Now I just crank up the sub woofer and play some of the 'garbage' created today, just to see it bounce across the floor lol.

anyways, glad u had some good stuff to introduce him to!

Heh... if it weren't for my parents, I wouldn't appreciate Glenn Miller, Tommy Dorsey, Louis Armstrong or Patsy Cline like I do. I thank them for that.

I grew up on Rock and Roll and I must admit that I still like listening to the old stuff, but frankly, I don't spend much time listening to it anymore, if you exclude Pink Floyd, which I listen to all the time.

It is my humble opinion that American popular music reached it's pinnacle in the Big Band Swing era.

It took me many years to come to that conclusion, but I hold to it to this very day.

Whoops! I didn't see your post, Lisa, but as you can see, I wholeheartedly concur and I like the old country music, too.

A while back I was in a publix supermarket with my 5 y.o.,.... when I realized the song playing in the background was the clash (IIRC), or some other anti establishment group from my childhood. Kind of made me sad to realize I'm so old that my "cool" music is now muzak at the supermarket

Wow! That would be "Crazy!"

It would be "Strange" if your your husband caught us, though, and I'd feel "So Wrong."

"I Fall to Pieces" and I get the "Lovesick Blues" every time that happens.

Oh, the "Heartaches" I "Always" suffer!

One thing everybody learns sooner or later is that these artists didn't become legends because they couldn't play. You'll know they got it bad when they pull out the Buddy Holly, Everly Brothers, Ricky Nelson stuff from the 50's.

My middle son, and most of his friends around the 21 year old age have liked older music for last ten years. Started on Hendrix, Zep, Floyd. Huge Dylan fan he has nearly everything he released, now into Joy Division, New Order, Stones, Beatles, Sam Cooke, and blues legends. Does not listen on LP though, although I have most of the records, prefers Ipod, Spotify and Youtube. His Ipod looks more like mine.

I did the same thing as a kid, my parents had an eclectic mix of music which I started listening to from the age of 12. artists like pink floyd, wilson pickett, otis redding, archie shepp and the rolling stones all had an influence on my music taste. All my vinyl is in storage sat in flight cases so my 3 year old wont get hands on them for a while. He will have to make do with the Black Eyed Peas and Mario Biondi via the car ipod for now
