i was cleaning the glass of my wife's lady datejust with a piece of cloth when the cyclop moved and came off.

was this a normal occurrence on a rolex watch?

i may have to send the watch to a rsc to get it fixed.

If its under warranty you shouldbe good. If not theyllcharge you roughly 150 for replacement of crystal.

Chances are they will want to replace the crystal imo.

Never heard of something like that happening before! I'd send it to RSC, like Tan posted Rolex will probably replace the whole crystal.

An AD with an in-house watchmaker should be able to rectify the situation without sending it off. I know firsthand.

Just buy a small tube of clear UV Crystal Cement and glue that cyclops back. A single drop of UV cement on the back of cyclops and spread it out to cover the back of the cyclops. Put it back on the sapphire crystal and position it over the date. Take the watch outside and expose to sun light or under a UV light (hence the name UV Crystal Cement) for a few minutes and you're done. Sending it back to RSC to have it glued back on???

Hmmm... I think a few ND sub, SD, DSSD, Milgauss and Daytona owners may disagree with you there!

To the OP, if RSC insist on changing the crystal, I'd be tempted to try to glue it back myself or seek out an independent first. I'd change the crystal at the RSC as a last resort. Just seems like a bit of overkill to me. Please let us know how it all works out.

The cyclop is put on with ultraviolet cement clean the back of the cyclop with a new straight razor to get the old glue off. then put a small dot of the cement on the crystal using tweezers drop the cyclop onto the drop and carefully move it around to just evenly cover the bottom of the cyclop. Now make sure it's lined up with the date a slowly walk outside into the sun making sure to keep it level within about 10 seconds it will set permanantly. The cement is designed to work with 2 pieces together wait a couple hours after it sets and wipe any excess off with naptha benzene and your good to go. Rikki

Does seem odd, perhaps it had one to many bumps and loosened a bit... Easy fix and rather inexpensive. Ad/Watchmaker or RSC will be able to do it for you NP

Just curious, where does one go to get ultraviolet cement? Is it difficult to get hold of?

Any watch supply house has it, tube for under 10 dollars enough to last for years. I believe you can pick it up at Ace Hardware as well. Rikki
