Thinking about RSC NY

So I was thinking about sending my watch to the RSC in new york because its the closet to my house. My watch is in great shape at least on the outside so I was thinking service costs wouldn't be anything crazy.

So long story short I call up RSC to find out some info about it ask some basic questions and then he informs me what I need to do to ship it.

First off how the hell do I secure a watch inside a small brown box just a bunch of bubble wrap?

Also where in the hell do I get the "brown tape the kind that you wet" his exact words for the tape around the box?

any advice on any of this would be greatly appreciated it.

Go to any office depot/staples/ups store. he's talking about paper packing tape with adhesive backing (need to use a sponge to activate the adhesive). cover any box seams with it. I would also wrap the watch in mini-bubble wrap with a little bit of packing material in between the bracelet and the watch head.

if you go to a post office and tell them you need instructions for packing something for registered mail, they'll sort you out.

Go have it professionally wrapped up somewhere, or better yet, go enjoy a weekend in the city and drop it off in person.....

NYC isn't that far from us. After reading the most recent horror story threads about case mix ups and confiscations, I have vowed to always hand deliver my pieces to RSC NY and only leave it in their care after receiving the service estimate.

You can always have your local AD send it in, maybe a good choice at this point....

I've been trying to find a solid dealer here in MA, but all the reviews I read about the stores around me also seem to have a bunch of horror stories. Seems to be a pick your poison type of scenario... But in all actuality how hard could it be to send a watch 180 miles to RSC. I'll just make sure to take a bunch of pictures prior to me shipping it, If i do go that route.

You're probably fine. Send it USPS Registered Priority mail (which also happens to be what Rolex USA uses), the chain of custody is recorded and you can insure up to $25K. And load up on the extras like delivery confirmation (tracking) and signature confirmation (recorded signature and delivery time). And, if you really want to be thorough, you can video record the entire packing process.

Or you can just drive in and hand it over yourself. I think for me the problem with using an AD is that I may not be RSC's first contact regarding service options (I'm assuming this is the case, someone correct me if I'm wrong), and it's one extra layer that isn't necessary.

That card is only needed for warranty work done within the warrnty period, so since it passed you don't need to use it.

Any AD in MA can send it in for you.

Correct and I would do as such. Handing it over to an AD is probably just as secured as sending it directly to NYC Rolex.

Will do I think i'm gonna call rolex back and make sure I have all of the facts correct before I ship it out. All the damn instructions they gave was pretty confusing. Any other advice people have on what to include inside the box would be great. thats how I feel right now haha

The only way that you can ship anything by US Post Office Registered mail is a plain brown box and paper tape..

It's a requirement of the Post Office, not of Rolex - except that Rolex only accepts Regisered Mail.

The Post Office can provide you with the tape... or Office Depot and any other office supply store..

Now, if you can't figure out how to put a watch in a padded envelope and bubble wrap, I can't help you..

LOL I bubbled wrapped the hell out of it. I could figure it out and did figure it out just wondering if anyone used any specialty items for this, but anything in between the bracelet and the head of the watch... etc.... lol thanks though
