New EXP II Discounts

Hey There,
I've been a regular customer at an AD here in Canada purchasing a Sub LV and a GMT IIc. Both watches were bought with a 22% discount (BUT we have 13% sales tax here in Canada).
When the new Exp II came out and hit the showcases I went back to see my AD and he offered ZIP ALL on the watch because it was highly in demand. Not impressed at all, I waited and went back a short time later and he offered 5%. He since offered 15% but I want the 22% that I received on the other Rolexes that I bought.

What are people seeing in terms of discounts on this watch in Canada and other parts of the globe....please share.

Thanks.

Sigh. Ur getting a good discount. Buy the watch and enjoy.

Otherwise check the classifieds here and see how much you can get off of retail.

20-22 from a canadian AD is a good discount. and i have experienced something similar when asking about new models when they first come out. basically the AD will try to sell the piece to people at the highest price possible and the only way to do that is right when the piece is first introduced. the people that really want it bad will pay the price and those that want the discount will wait.

Sounds like you "waited" too long. Rolex decreased the dealer margins a few months ago so they are probably making about the same amount of money on you.

The days of deep discounts are going away, and Rolex is padding their pockets even more these days.

I recently purchased a TT Datejust from my Rolex AD and received close to a 25% discount. It was before the price increase, so I definitely purchased at the right time. As mentioned by others, SS Subs are a little harder to get a substantial discount. When I was quoted outrageous pricing for a Milguass GV (some AD's in my area put the GV's on a pedestal as if it is some holy grail), I purchased a BNIB GV from DavidSW with tremendous savings. Oscar Bodybump is another trusted seller I can recommend.

Good Luck Hunting!!!

I'd disagree. As mentioned above, Rolex has reduced the amount of markup that they incorporate into their MSRP, which is cutting into AD's margins. The odd thing about Rolex (at least to me) is that the margin that the AD makes is the same percentage, whether we're talking a SS, TT, or 18kt piece. At the current price of the SS Explorer II (just over $7600), there just isn't a whole lot of room for AD's to discount, period. In some states (like mine) where the sales tax is close to 10%, even doing that is more than a quarter of the profit of the watch.

It's just one of several reasons why discounting is, and will continue to become a thing of the past. It's just not sustainable, from the AD's POV.

It would seem that your AD offered you a good discount. However, Yikes! you have a 13% sales tax! Bill P.
