Poor quality with Maxi Dail on a GMT IIc
I just purchased a SS GMT IIc, and the Lum dot for the number 2 marker has what appears to be a dimpel mark in it. That is the circle is not entirely smooth, looks like small crator. I have a SS Sub date, that is 9 years old and nothing like this on any of the markers. Is this common, or did I just get one that got through Rolex's QC?

Welcome to TRF!
Well, that should not happen, and it seems like another bad QC issue. I would simply have the dial exchanged by RSC.

Bo,
Thank you for the reply. How do I go about having them replace the Dail, and is there a long turn around time. I have been waiting months for a Panerai to come home. |

I would go the the AD with it and show them the watch. They will then determine what to do, but since they probably won't have a spare dial lying around they would probably have the watch sent to RSC. Turnaround time would be 3-4 weeks, I'd say.
Maybe you can have them order the dial from RSC, but I guess not, but still try asking them to do that and you can wear your watch in the waiting time.

If its QC. Have the watch replace by your AD.

Can any AD do it, I am in Massachusetts, and my AD did not have any GMT IIc and would not give me timeline, was on the waiting list. Found the watch in Vegas, and bought it because I could not find it in MA, or NH. not a lot of deals around me.

A new GMTIIC dial in 3-4 weeks?
I've read here, as I'm sure a lot of you have, that they don't even have extra links available for the new GMT. Which should be a very easy thing to get. Based on Rolex USA's lack of response in spare parts for the new GMT, I would say that you would be lucky to have the dial replaced in 6 months. |

Honestly, I have had a few MAXI dials, like TT Yachtmasters, Submariner LV's, GMT II in TT and SS, and 9 out of 10 times I will be able to find a luminova imperfection on one of the markers...
I heard Rolex QC looks at watches from 1 foot away, which is why when we look too closely at them, we start seeing imperfections. I say live with it, or else you'll possibly get fingerprints or dust under the crystal when you get it back. |

Thank you all for posting. I will have to live with it. My Panerai has imperfections, and that was one of the reasons I went back to Rolex, not that I sold the Panerai. I guess that's the price you pay.

I ll be very very careful at buying a ROLEX and I will spend 1 hour or more with looking every detail of the watch before buying. I'm thinking it more complexed to choose best Rolex without mistake after reading all problems here.

Can someone post a pic of that "dimple" - should be interesting.
That's probably why my TOP PRIORITY list is always carry a 10x loupe along with you and check out the DIAL - especially the DIAL - BEFORE plonking down a single cent on the counter!! JJ

my #2 marker looks fine, but my second has hand has an ever so slightly uneven application of lume on it. not enough to bother me, but i figure i'll bring it into the RSC to have it fixed right at the end of the 2 year warranty. i figure they can go over the rest of the watch for free while they doing that.

I have a little imperfection exactly on top of my R in Rolex. Also, the oval in my coronet is not perfectly oval. Both are only visible under high magnification, so I'm trying not to magnify them.
Such is life. Nothing is perfect. |

Panerai turnaround time
Yes! I'm not the only one that experienced unusually long turnaround time to get a Panerai back. Mine was for routine service. 10+ weeks. Unacceptable. That's why I now wear Rolex.
