Fix ding or just go ahead with full service?
Hello I just got a ding on the corner of one of my Rolexes. Got quoted 220 from a local repair shop which specializes in high end watch repairs. They said they have to dismantle the case and then refinish it. I know it's minor but I thought at 220 I might even just service it through RSC at this point. I rarely wear this watch so knowing it has a bruise just irritates me. Your thoughts people?

I would do it for the $220. Rsc is going to charge a lot more for the same result.

If it really bothers you than get it fixed. Personally, I would wait till service to get it sorted.

I would leave it. I'd be concerned with too much metal removal. MAYBE let RSC deal with it when the time comes.

Leave it. They're not going to "fix" the ding - they're going to buff off all the metal around the area and try to make it blend in. You're going to lose the original lines of the watch. Allow Rolex to buff the watch when the time comes.

Well hopefully the OP will learn his lesson to not knock it around too much---
Next ding or scratch will never happen because the op will wear the watch, all covered in bubblewrap and ducttape, with little windows cut out to tell time rotate the bezel and turn the crown! |

Just cannot see any point spending that sort of money every time you get a tiny ding just leave it till normal service time. You must remember its just a watch and watches will get dings when worn that's a simple fact.

I got the ding cause I went through airport security and put my watch in a separate bin cause I realized my original bin was already on the track. I remembered oh no my watch is still on my wrist so I placed it in a separate bin. As everything went fine and dandy.... the TSA worker thought the bin was empty and grabbed it turning it sideways for a second while I was putting on my shoes and getting the contents from the 1st bin and lo and behold my watch dropped out.... I thought it was all okay but upon arriving in NYC I saw the ding while on my cab ride home.....
I don't really wear this watch only rarely with a suit or a dinner event and have several other watches I wear on more rotation. Just irritates me to see the ding there Ill stop by an AD here to see what they say, did remember seeing someone else post a couple years back their AD had their watchmaker take care of the same type of ding |

Ouch, that really sucks. I feel for you as I have the same watch and only wear it maybe a couple of days out of the week in rotation (like you) and if I got a ding I would want to get it taken care of immediately. I think because it is not an every day wearer it probably irks you even more. If i was closer than let's say 2yrs from service time, I'd likely take it to an RSC. More than that, I would just wait it out like the others have mentioned.

If its driving you nuts get it fixed. Something tells me it'll cost more to get fixed at RSC.
Is it time for a service?

It would bother me, too. The only thing worse would be to pay for a botched ding repair. I would wait for service by RSC.

Does your airport require you to remove your watch? I NEVER remove mine and I wouldn't if they asked me.

Leave it. I have a feeling that if you send it to your local watch shop, we will shortly see a new thread saying how they destroyed your lug and it has no shape to it anymore.
