Help - Is my Rolex real? (pictures)
Hi guys,
I just purchased a new Rolex Submariner (Z Series) from a reputable eBay seller. I just want to verify that it is infact real as I have no experience with Rolex watches. 1. I checked for the micro-embossed Rolex etching at the "swiss time" area around 6 oclock with a powerful loupe. I could see it (making me beleive at least the timepiece is legit). 2. The "bubble" above the date is not "part of the glass". (It looks like it is stuck on to the top of the crystal). Is this normal? On my Panerai watches it is flush with the glass (built in). 3. The bracelet has no serial numbers where it meets with the lugs. I thought all bracelets should have serial numbers in this area. It only has a serial number on the clasp portion. 4. Note, I removed the sticker from the back of the watch. It was clear with "16613" on it. I understand Rolex dumped the hologram for their newest watches. If anyone could help me out that would be great. I have attached some pictures of the watch. Thanks so much! |

I don't know for sure, but I think I would have asked FIRST. But that's just me. Good luck!

In addition... this rolex came with a "credit card" type warranty piece.
My fathers turn-o-graph which was purchased a few years ago came with a paper guarantee (see attached) Does this make a difference? |

The cyclops window is glued on the crystal and the bracelt number is on the clasp--93253. On SELs the number appears inside the endlinks-can't see it without removing the bracelet.
From what I can tell the watch looks fine. Welcome!! |

Your father's watch has the older punched paper warranty, you have the new credit card style--perfectly normal and correct though I wouldn't display the complete serial number to be safe.

The clasp code dates it to July, 2007. The bracelet is correct. The fakers usually screw up the bracelet. They use the SS sub clasp for almost everything. Yours looks good.

Ok wait a minutes guys.........
Come on now !!! How can you possibly "authenticate" a Rolex by viewing a few jpegs on the internet ? There was absolutely NOTHING that I saw on those pictures that tells me one way or another whether this watch is authentic or not. I am not trying to undermine all the enthusiasts here, but please !!!! I am still learning about these beautiful time pieces myself. And I am also learning about how to perhaps purchase a Rolex online to save some cash. But there are very great risks by purchasing these items online without "physically" examining the watch in person. Furthermore, I have also seen a dozen or so websites selling "Swiss replicas" that have all the proper specifications, markings and even the laser etched crown in the crystal. So my question is this....... If I showed you those pics from the Replica sites, would you guys also be led to believe that it is an authentic watch ? |

Do a little reading here and you'll quickly discover how accurate most of these guys are at calling out fakes from modern to vintage. Nothing seems to get past the scrutiny of TRF
When in doubt test them out. Now there are high end fakes that require opening up the watch but most Folex have faults that can be seen externally. If you buy online, only buy from a well regarded seller/company. Anything else and you're asking for trouble. Quote:

TRF members are brilliant at detection BUT I had both a watchmaker w/28 years experience and a RUSA technician (initially) not detect my counterfeit.
The level of refinement on certain fakes is astounding . I'm only one story of many in that regard. Not a specific comment about the 16613 which is deemed legit. Just something to think about in general.... Quote:

Thanks guys - what a great community! The seller has sold quite a few rolex's (on eBay) and I did look up the dealer listed on the warranty card (also seems legit).
Now, the fact that you guys are writing it off as legit, and that I could see the laser etched crown under a high powered loupe makes me feel great. Thanks again everyone! |
