Is this Daytona for real?

Hi, I am new to TRF and I have received an offer to purchase a Daytona from a seller in New Zealand who is a member of the watchnet forum.
The watch he has on offer is the following:
Rolex Daytona SS White Dial 116520
Model 116520 year 2004 Serial F
he is asking 7400$ and willing to sell for 7k. Is that too good to be true? He sent me pics including the of the frontside of the certificate but he says there is no dealership mentioned in it (where the watch was first bought).

Is that an alarm-bell? Can anybody tell me what to look out for and what questions to ask the seller before agreeing to a purchase?

Thanks in advance to all!
Greetings,
D

If you have the pictures post them. there are some very educated people on this forum who are amazing at figuring out if things are fake or not just by the slightest detail. Also you must look into the seller ask him for references look around the forum see if he has posted other stuff before. Before you buy any watch at all you need to be able to trust the seller 100 percent. That's a lot of money to just transfer away if you aren't confident that the seller is a stand up guy.

rule 1) by the seller not the item
rule 2) post pictures here (high quality pics)
rule 3) Go through one of the trusted sellers on TRF such as davidsw, mosco, etc you will find many references in the who's who section here.

All and all be safe and don't go after the deal if you think its too good to be true, because generally it is. Goodluck and I hope you find the daytona of your dreams very soon my friend.

Thats real. Only question is the movement. If that checks out you found a hell of a deal!

It looks real to me as well, but as they say, if it looks to good to be true, it probably is. Defiantly be careful with this one.

It is all about the seller. What references he has on that forum, elsewhere and his experience buying/selling. Welcome to TRF!

The risk is paying money to someone you don't know.
As stated above, what is important is the reliability of the seller.
You need independent confirmation from a reliable source that you will get the watch.

Otherwise there is a higher risk. Its up to you, but I would rather walk away than entertain the real prospect that I could lose $7K.

Hey! Thanks for all the tips guys! Yesterday I asked for references and the name of the delaership on the certificate where the watch was first bought.
:-) so far no answer. Guess too good to be true is going to be applicable here, but keeping an open mind for now.
Great to have discovered such an expereinced "sounding board" here on TRF

It's a genuine photo, but considering it is several thousand less than what you'd normally pay just do some background on the watch and the seller before deciding. If the deal really sounds too good to be true after that then go with your gut feeling.

Pics are real, but is that the watch you'll get?

7K seems too low?

Yeah, thats what I thought too: the price seemed too low. I asked the seller for references and informed him that I would ask around. We had some initial email exchanges where he answered my emails quickly and provided me with those pics. I asked if he accepted Paypal (for me the onyl way to go because I have been saved from a bad deal by them) I then asked who I had been talking to all this time as his mails were signed off with his Watchnet name "jewelry-king". This was three days ago and no more answers. That said enough for me and I wont go near it anymore.

Again: its great to have folks like you with so much combined knowledge out there!!
Thanks again to all ,
Greetings,

D

Maybe you all are focusing too much on the price. Notice he said 7400$, not $7400. I don't think this is in US? Converting Euros that's $9200. On the other hand the seller is in New Zealand, I think their exhange rate would be more like $5600(?) which might make one question. You can't get a frame of whether the price is a bargin or not without knowing the currency.

I've always been from the school of thought if it sounds too good to be true it usually is. I don't mind spending a few extra dollars to put myself at ease with who I am doing business with.

I know quite a few who type it like that here in the US...not sure if maybe they forget to put the dollar sign in front and then just stick it in at the end. Since it is a dollar sign though it's pretty much a safe bet this is what they mean. If it is some other currency then they would put the conversion or a different symbol.

Noticed that he has now re-listed again on watchnet. This time for 6800$.
Still no further answers to my emails. I posted the facts on watchnet too (my username there "antilian"). Hope nobody falls for this guy's tactics
