Should I get a GMTII if I have an Exp II?

I'm trying to decide if I should add a GMTII to my collection. I have an Explorer II and aesthetically they look similar. Thanks!

Personally, I would get something different, since as you said, "they look similar."

Maybe a YM, Daytona or Sub LV.

It's your call, and in the end, you'll enjoy both of them

If you have the money and like the watch, why not.

It depends which GMT you're talking about and which Explorer you have.

Why not? GMT Master is similiar to the EXP in the function but it is very different at the same time.

Unless you need a third timezone it is redundant since they are both similiar.

my situation is much the opposite: I have the GMTII and am giving serious thought to Explorer II. I think part of it is due to wanting a white faced watch - I haven't had had anything but black (save for an inherited item or two) in a very long time.

Depends on if you have a "collection", or just a bunch of watches..

A true collection would have a theme or be directed at a goal, such as having a collection of dual-time watches. Both the GMT and Exp II are dual-time watches and between these two watches alone, you could build a collection of over a dozen watches and never have a duplicate.

If the goal is to have a bunch of different watches, the answer is no..

Don't do it if you think they look too similar. It's what you think that matters in the final analysis.

In your heart you know ... you won't buy it because you think they are similar, you'll buy something else but you really wanted the GMT ... in the end, that is an expensive mistake, especially if you correct it and end up getting the GMT since that is what you really wanted in the first place. I just been there.

FWIW, I think they offer a completely different look and feel.

I have both the GMTIIC and EXP42 ( in black and white faces )... I don't wear my GMTIIC at all at the moment. For me they are not identical but they offer pretty close to the same function ( 3 v 2 time zones ). If you want a GMT why not go vintage and get a Pepsi or Coke or Root Beer..... or a Panerai ;o)

don't see why not unless you need a different watch for different activities (e.g. you need a diver's watch)

As others have pointed out, in your original post you didn't specify whether the GMT II you are considering is a 16710 or a 116710, (or earlier reference)....so if not a 116710, IMHO, I think aesthetically a 16710, with Pepsi bezel, would be a striking contrast to either dial color of Expy, despite both sharing the similarity of a 24-hr hand.

In addition to comments above, you can also always get a GMTIIc in two-tone or gold which would add aesthetic difference to the watch. Or, go for GMTII with interchangeable aluminum colored bezel inserts as well if looking to save some money.
