Explorer or Sub discount from AD ???
I am in the market for a EXP II (or possibly a SUB), and would like input as to what is the most achievable percentage off the list price. I have owned two Rolex's and received 10% off, but have never received more than this. Is it possible to get more than 10% off from an AD on a 2011 or 2012 NIB black dial EXP II??

Depends on the AD and how tight you are with them. The sub is a darn popular piece, so discounts arent really necessary to sell them. That said, if your persistant, I think 10% is do-able- or just save time and loot and buy right here from TRF!

I believe that is on the older model...not the new ExpII that was released at Basel '11. Also, Canada is a different mix of bags than the U.S. You can get discounts on the SS Daytona from just about any AD in Canada. Here in the U.S., I would say unless you have a good relationship with an AD, you will be hard pressed to get a discount on a SS SubC or new ExpII.

Jedinite, can you chime in on this? Was yours a new EXP II??
I thought Rolex permits any AD to provide a 10% discount. Is there any truth in this? |

Discounting is different in Canada compared to the US. I have seen fairly regular posts by our Canadian members regarding 20%+ discounts on SS Sports models. It's much more rare to get that kind of discount in the US. 10% seems pretty standard from smaller non-chain ADs.

@WatchingTime - you are unlikely to get that much discount, unless you have a very good existing relationship with your AD. Realistically count on being told between 0 - 10% max if you are lucky

I used to get 15 % on sports Rolex watches (except the SS Daytona), but times have changed and the prices that the AD's buy Rolex watches at, too, so now I can only get between 5 and 8 %.... some of the new releases aren't discounted, at all.

in denmark in the old days i could get as much as 35% off and a free service, i'd buy 2-3 pieces and ADs were very willing to negotiate

I went to a local AD over the weekend in the US. For a SS sub he offered me a 4% discount + no tax (or as he put it, he covers the sales tax). I was only shopping around though and not seriously buying so I didn't give him a "knock off another $200 and I'll pay you right now" type of deal which he might have agreed to. His offer was for cash, bank wire, or credit card and he didn't offer any discount for cash.
I believe if you go with a non-AD (trusted seller here, etc.), you can get around 8-10% off. I am still shopping around and am trying to get a 10% off deal at an AD with no tax. |

I don't think it's inappropriate since I'm sure a lot of people do it. But in general, the larger and more "established" the store, the less likely you will get a discount. If you are a repeat customer you probably can get discounts even at the boutiques.
I used to shop at Hugo Boss sometimes in the Century City mall in SoCal. To my surprise, my sales guy one day started giving me 15% off whatever I bought. I didn't know they could do that. It wasn't always expensive stuff either. e.g., if you go to Ben Bridge, Tourneau, etc. your chance of getting a discount is very low. But if you go to a small family owned store that is still an AD, you have a pretty good chance on getting a discount. |
