I apologize if this has been asked before....

Mireyna,

It's sometimes called a roulette date wheel. The old GMT 6542 also had one. Looks pretty cool.

The alternating red/black date colour is an OPTION. So it is not automatically on ALL DJ's.

The early DJ's from the 1950ies had an all-red date colour, btw.

Oh OK, but why?? Is there a reason for it being like that?

Given there isn't a 0 or 00, the odds playing would be awesome!

Mireyna,

I think it's simply a matter of looks. I believe the new references are RED for odd and BLACK for even. It's my understanding only certain dials are equipped with RED/BLACK wheels.

I seem to recall the GOLD GMT IIc having a GREEN/BLACK wheel? Perhaps someone with that reference can enlighten.

Here is a standard DJ 116200 with red date:

And the ToG comes with it as standard.

I thought it was only the Turn-O-Graph with the red, but it does look cool!

Guys,

On the new TOGs, all the dates are in RED.

On the new DJs, odd dates are RED, even dates are BLACK!!

The big question is WHY Rolex decided to do this. I'm damned if I know. I recall some calendar watches having Sunday as a RED letter date, but every odd number day? Something to do with the stock market maybe??

I do not know the logic behind Rolex thinking here. It can't be just for cosmetic reasons.... there must be a purpose

I don't think there's any real logic or reasoning behind this one, Steve.....other than pure aesthetics. With the advent of the new style case and bracelets, Rolex just wanted to have another "different" introduction and probably came up with this idea of RED and BLACK alternating dates on their date wheel.
