Help! GMT II with 16700 movement?

Need help from the Rolex experts. Was a Rolex GMT II ever made with the 16700 movement (the one where you can not set the hour hand separately, but instead set the date separately)? I am looking at buying a guy's GMT II, but it has the 16700 movement apparently, and I always thought that all GMT IIs had the ability to set the hour hand separate from the GMT hand. Am I wrong? This is an N serial if that helps. Help!

It doesn't matter what the serial number is.. The whole point of the GMT II is the jump feature.

I'd pass on this dodgy offer..

Maybe the dial was replaced with GMT II dial. I always take off the bracelet to inspect the reference and serial numbers. Did you do that and what is the reference number at the 12:00 side? If it says 16700 then the dial was replaced. Regardless, I would pass on the watch since it is definately a put together GMT.

16700 movement? No such thing exists. The number refers to the sapphire crystal GMT-Master (not GMT-II) that was produced alongside the GMT-Master II for a period of time, and does NOT have the independently adjustable hour hand, but does have a quick set date. It used the 3175 caliber, and the GMT-II (with independent hour hand capability) used the 3185.

This has been discussed here before: http://www.rolexforums.com/showthread.php?t=35245

Hope this helps!
