SS Black Face Daytona Question
Hey Guys,
I've been a member of the forum for 6 years, since I got my Rolex LV SUB (Kermit dial). My AD just called me and said she just got a SS Black Face Daytona. I just wanted to get some feedback in terms of how hard is it to get the watch (I know before there were waiting lists, not sure now) and is paying MSRP normal for a watch like this or do I have a chance of getting a discount. Thanks for any feedback or advice |

BNIB examples have been sold here multiple times - and below MSRP and AD discount levels.
Hope that helps!

Well if you had to wait for a phone call, that tells you how hard it is to get at that AD. Based on that, i would not expect a discount from them.

Buy it if you like it. They hold value, but expect to take a 1.5-2k hit if you wanted to sell.

I'm not sure how hard SS Daytonas are to get nowadays. Historically it has been difficult. I recently bought a new white dial SS Daytona after I just walked into an AD, talked to them a little while, looked at the various gold Daytonas and asked if they had any SS. He told me that they just got one in and it happened to be a white dial, which I have always wanted. I did ask him for a 5% discount (which I was pretty sure I wouldn't) and he promptly refused. I've always loved the SS Dayona so I bought it. My advice would be, if you really want it, grab it up, it's a great watch!

Not as hard to get now so no crisis buying however I would not expect much of a discount on that watch

If you want the watch, buy it. Opportunities to buy will come and go. Don't buy it just because you think or have been told it's difficult to get.

Nice watch, no longer the "grail" IMHO but a beauty! If you love it and want it get it. If you would purchase just to purchase I would pass. As for the discount I do not believe you will be able to obtain a discount. I purchased a SS Daytona about a year ago and was able to leave with the watch at the AD and they ate the tax... Thats about it but of course if never hurts to ask.
Just because they are more plentiful doesn't mean they are cheap

I hate to disagree but a quick search of the For Sale section has 1 LNIB Black Daytona at retail price. Another "older" model is well over $11,000 ...as much as the myth that the daytona is impossible to get may be over, so is the myth that they are being sold at discount here on the the Forum. -Pete

Mine had called me a couple months ago about one that had just come in (SS black dial) and I can't complain at all about picking it up. They had the white dial version as well, but I already had the white dial Exp II. Love the watch.
As has been mentioned...don't expect a discount going in though.

Probably not hard to get these days, but I wouldn't expect a discount unless you've purchased a few watches from that AD before.

I would think you would have to pay sales tax with no discount, probably better off buying from a trusted seller on the forum, you will save much more.

The waiting lists are shorter now for the SS Daytona... depending on the country you should be able to get a 116520 within 1 to 6 months. In Europe around 1 to 3 months..
I doubt you'll get a discount, though, but it doesn't hurt you asking the AD.

you stand 2 chances of gaining a discount on a BNIB Daytona from an AD - some chance & no chance
buy here on TRF & you'll not go wrong
