Question for DSSD owners
How are you managing with other watches?
I just wore my Sub C for a weekend after two weeks with the DSSD ... yes, the same Sub C LV I loved for one year ... and it felt so .... wrong ... small, thin, clasp too large for the head ... they say variety is the spice of life, but I don't see it. (DISCLAIMER: The paragraph above is just a personal opinion derived from current DeepSea infatuation ... I am sure it will pass ... I am not starting a discussion or questioning the Sub ... just, maybe, my continued love affair with it). I was away from home. I couldn't wait to get back and strap this bad mother back on. I will wait until the honeymoon is over, but I am SERIOSULY considering selling my Sub.

My Navitimer still gets some air time, but it feels light and a bit small compared to the DSSD. I tried on a Daytona and 41mm Date Just at the ADs the other week and I am afraid they felt too small and light. It might be a trend, not that Rolex is in to trends, but I think big is here for a decade a least now, if not longer and plenty of other manufacturers have stepped up to the plate with 42mm+.

There is usually an adjustment period for me as well when moving from the DSSD to another in the collection.
Usually only an hour or so though, and then I start to enjoy all the next piece has to offer and the reason I bought them in the first place.... I enjoy the switch in size. Makes one appreciate all things different!

I'm the opposite. Wore my DSSD every day for 3+ years. Tried on the SubC had to have it and my DSSD doesn't get worn much at all anymore. It's worn even less now that I got a 44mm AP. after about 2.5 years the thickness, illusion that the bracelet was too skinny, and writing around the bezel saying "Ring Lock System" started to bother me a little. The thickness was really the main issue and it feels so top heavy compared to my other watches. I'm a bigger guy with 7.75-8" wrists, 6'2" around 220lbs, so a larger watch looks fine on me. Don't get me wrong as I think it's a great piece and I still love it but no way could I wear it everyday again. In all honesty mine gets worn about once a month now and that might be on the high side. There was a thread a few months ago about DSSD owners. I was surprised to see there were a few owners like myself that found after a few years of wear their feelings toward the watch changed some. It was a very interesting read.

I feel exactly the same. I have recently had a Ploprof 1200M, Sinn U1000S, Grand Seiko Spring Drive Diver, SubC LV, SubC LN, Milgauss GV, Milgauss black, Sinn 358 Jubilaum, Seiko MM300, Sinn U1T, Seiko SBDB001 Spring Drive GMT Diver, Seiko SBDX005 Limited Edition Year 2000 Anniversary Tuna AND...... I ABSOLUTELY WEAR THE DSSD 90% of the time and sold most of the others due to simply not wearing them even once more in months.
To be fair the SubC LN displaced many of them for wrist time but when the DSSD came aboard it wasn't even a fair fight anymore. I wear it daily and only on rare occasions wear the SBDX005 for some spice of a "big" watch, the LV for a little color, and a G-Shock for rough stuff. Contrary to many I actually like the taper of the bracelet and if there was anything that "slightly" annoyed me about the DSSD it would be the off angle viewing of the dial being distorted a bit due to the domed sapphire and the way the endlinks peculiarly don't really fit the lugs on the watch which I think is entirely odd but I accept it because I just love every other thing about the watch. What is up with Rolex making the lugs and endlinks different on this model? It is so crazy how perfectly the SubC's fit but how the contour of the DSSD lugs just don't match the lugs. Very odd and I can only assume it's so the bracelet can be polished a dozen times and still sit flush or a tad proud of the lugs... besides that it still boggles my mind why they are not flush but I accept this quirk (for now) |

i don't own a sub-c but i can tell you that after wearing my dssd, all my other watches feel much lighter than their weight would suggest and certainly look smaller.
on a personal note, the best thing about my dssd is that of all my watches, rolexes in particular, it feels the most substantial from a msrp, engineering and overall appeal perspective. its also the only rolex i ever bought from my ad upon a first viewing. it was the display model and i was leaving with it. my sales rep didn't have to say a thing. enjoy it. |

Yes. It happened to me too. After a week wearing DSSD or 42mm , 44mm watches sub , daytona feels so small.

Don't worry Serge, you'll get over it! :-)
Sure, the DSSD is a monster watch but there will be plenty of occasions where just doesn't fit it, e.g. wearing it with a suit. It is simply a matter of getting used to it. It like driving a small car after you have owned a pickup truck or SUV. It sure feel strange at first, but it doesn't mean that it is wrong or even better more many/most occasions. Enjoy the honeymoon! :-) |

This is completely normal Serge - It'll do that to you. You may find you go the other way also and completely reject it. I did this after about a year of ownership and then regretted it and got it back. Now it's not going anywhere.
Enjoy it -

After 18months of everyday wear my DeepSea infatuation has not abated one little bit. Wife now wears the GMTIIc, I don't dislike the look or feel of the GMT, it just doesn't give me 'special' feeling on the wrist.

Definately tough to adjust going back to a standard 40mm Sub.
For me, I like the feeling of a smaller, thinner watch after wearing the DSSD for a while. A nice change up. Never letting my SubC go. Just enjoy the Deepsea by itself for a while. |

I can understand the Deepsea fever that you are having now but why would you want to sell off the Subc? I bet you will miss it the very second after selling it.
Please keep both and find another excuse for a new purchase. jK...

When I owned the DSSD, I hardly wore any of my other watches... properly sized up, the DSSD is a super comfy watch.

Good responses chaps. We'll see about the Sub after a couple months. If it sits unused, it might get traded by my first true love (an Explorer II, but the 42 version). It seems like a more balanced duo. Nothing for the now anyway.

EDIT, as mentioned below, I thought I've seen them on the YM but I wasn't sure. Looking at pictures, it does not seem like the exact design. They seem flatter and longer.

its my dialy wearer and has been for a few months now since I sold my 68' m/f 5513.
I find it very comfortable and strangely its the only watch I havent dinged or bumped (touch wood) in the first few months of ownership. Maybe I am just more aware of it being a large watch - but in any event I find it very comfortable as a daily wearer enjoy and wear in good health |

I view the DSSD has a Hummer 1 and my Submariner (with or without cyclops) as a Toyota Landcruiser or Range Rover Sport if you will. The DSSD is a complete overkill but at the same time a wonderful feat of engineering with a substantial look and feel that isn't easily match.
If you are comfortable driving a Hummer 24/7/365 and don't think you'll ever need another ride, then I don't see a problem selling the SubC. |

My DSSD gets rotated well but still gets the majority of wrist time, had a few weeks with my 16610 previously & that flies under the radar whilst the DSSD attracts far more attention. Just added a Daytona to the collection & although everything feels small in comparison i still give time to everything a spin every few weeks...no plans to flip or ditch anything, love them all.

My DSSD has been unloved since I bought a larger, heavier AP ROO Diver and fitted a bracelet to it. The DSSD weighs 220gms against the AP 240gms, but for some reason the AP is far, far more comfortable!! To be honest, it looks a bit better on dimensions too...

My avatar says it all. Of all my Rolexes, the DSSD is my topmost fave for its size, look and feel. It's followed by its forefather, the SD. Then it's a toss up between the SubC or the SubC LV.....DSSD forever!

The Matt dial, wonderful crystal and feel are hard to match. I pondered the exp II for ages..but as soon as the exp42 came out I knew it'd be mine one day. Again, the proportions are spot on. The 42mm makes it an easy watch to switch to and a perfect DSSD companion. Totally different but tons of character. Here they are together.

Serge, the solution is quite simple, I don't know how you didn't think about it before...
...Just buy a 26mm Datejust, wear it for a few days and then go back to the Submariner! Everything will be perfect again! In all seriousness, as some said, it's a matter of getting used to it. I don't have a DSSD but I know I had to get some adjustment when I went from smaller watches to big ones...and back to smaller ones. Today I can honestly say that I can get from a 28,5mm cushion watch to a 38mm chronograph without any problem but at first it was quite a change.

Same thing has happened to me with my YG and WG sub and even more my RG Daytona, it's the YMII for me daily others don't feel right anymore !! |
