Hi all, newb her that needs some help!!!
Hi all,
been reading the site for a short time now with great interest and I've decided it was about time I got some expert advice before I joint the Rolex club so to speak So here's the deal. Got my eye on a nice GMT Master II with the Pepsi dial in a reputable UK watch specialist. It's graded as 10/10 condition wise, is 2002, has all the box papers etc and is up for just under £2300. Now my feeling is that its about the right money but then I got thinking. I’m going to the states next year and I was wondering whether I'd be better investing in the new GMT model??? As such are there any of you guys over the pond that would have an idea of how much a brand new 'new model' GMT would cost from an authorised dealer over there. Any help here would be great as I'm teetering on the bring of buying this one Cheers folks B |

I think that price is a little high
www.thebrandedwatchcompany.co.uk are a UK based Grey Dealer that has all 3 GMT Bezel combinations for sale brand new for £2375 Never dealt with them but they seem professional enough. I'd also phone round a few AD's about availability & discount Dan |

Welcome to TRF!
The price is actually just a bit steap. In EUROPE Rolex watches are more expensive than in the States, and in a shop for pre-owned Rolex watches a GMT II 16710 would be sold for about 23.000 DKR in Denmark if the watch is in mint condition and has all its papers and its box (23.000 DKR = 2,200 £) Now, the new SS GMT IIc is a totally different watch, altogether.
Now, personally I would go for the NEW SS GMT II since I just think the above updates are really for the better And if you go to the States, you can pick up the SS GMT IIc much cheaper than you would be able to get it in Europe. Maybe you can even get a discount if you use your negotiation skills and pay cash. Also, you must consider that the "mint" SS GMT II from 2002 would need service very soon, and a full service would cost you around 450 £. So all in all I for my part would go for the NEW GMT IIc! Good luck!

I'm getting a BNIB Z series Coke bezel GMT II with jubilee bracelet for USD4500.00 from a grey dealer in NYC.
The price in Malaysia/Singapore for a good used example is around USD3588.00 as BNIB is pretty much extinct in these parts. |

Welcome B.
In the States, retail is about $5,000 US. It is possible to get a bit of a discount on the GMT, possibly up to 10%. The 16710, particularly the red/blue bezel version is getting harder to find as time goes by, however, in your case, any bezel color would do as a different color bezel insert can be found quite easily in the UK.. Good luck with your search. |

Sorry for the delay in replying folks and thanks for all your comments
Went ahead with the order having taken all things in to account and on the basis that I've got 7 days to return it for a full refund. Got here this morning and I must say i've got mixed feelings The Watch itself is great and I like the splash of colour the red/blue dial has. But I was disappointed with the bracelet. For me it felt too light and didn't feel chunky enough for my big wrist. So its going back - which is a shame as its immaculate and with a 12 month guarantee as well. Can I ask, is the Oyster bracelet any heavier as if it is I may order one of those to try instead. I notice that the new GMT II with the ceramic bezel (sp) has a 'solid' bracelet. I take it from this that it means the previous one's were not? Final question are there any noises coming from Rolex re the possibility of doing the red/blue red/black bezels on the new GMT??? Thanks in advance chaps B |

Yes, the new Oyster bracelet (both for the new GMT II, but also the new standard Oyster for the DJ) is heavier due to solid centre links and a heavier construction of the clasp. The old-style Oyster bracelet did not have solid centre links.
As for the a blue/red version of the ceramic bezel, YES, there have been rumours about Rolex FINALLY succeeding in making such a version after having had much trouble with bonding the two colours together in the ceramic bezel. But nothing has been confirmed, yet.

It had just been serviced too and with the 12 month warranty it made me feel more secure about the whole thing than buying one for £1850 from someone with little in the way of provable heritage and then me having to shell out £xxx for a service. Each to their own I suppose So does anyone think I'll find the feel off the Oyster bracelet any heavier/more robust than the Jubilee one, or are they about the same??? B |

The Oyster bracelet is considerably heavier than the Jubilee and has a completely differend feel. The clasp is also a "fliplock" style and is more secure.. As far as the solid center links vs. the hollow center link, when worn it is not noticable.. GMT in an Oyster: GMT in a Jubilee: |

I sold a BNIB one on ebay 3 months or so back and got £2200 for it (Z serial) - black dial.. I would think that 2002 is worth £1900-£2000 realistically... Enjoy if you go for it - a CRACKER and will appreciate I'm sure

Welcome, it's a tough call as to what you or we think is value for money.
The GMT IIc is "the New Classic" but the Pepsi is the "original classic", so forget the "value" and go with your heart. f |
