5513 Help
Need to pick the Rolex geniuses brains. I own a 1,8 mil serial 5513. Case back has date of IV 67, from what I've read that seems to match up. I believe this was the meters first dial era. Mine is not a MF, but appears, at least to my novice eye, to be a 70's MK1 maxi dial. I am not sure about this, of course. If the dial was swapped at a service, wouldn't it be a plain old service dial? If in fact it is a maxi, seems strange that someone would swap out an original for the maxi. I am aware there is a lot of maxi love out there and this may well be the case. Also, I have a Rolex warrantee card, with matching serial, that indicates a date of purchase of 08/1971. You guy know a bunch more than I do about this, please help me make it all add up. Thanks.
I apologize in advanced for the sub par photos. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk HD |

I had a 4th quarter 1968 5513 that was meters first so I would say as a 1967 the dial should be MF.

Congrats you have a Maxi I dial in your 5513. If the watch went in for service during the time the Maxi I was in production, mid 70's 4.5 to 5.0 mil serial, then this likely the dial RSC would have put in the watch if the original dial needed to be replaced. All of this categorization of dials and the relative importance many place on particular ones rather than others is a relatively new phenomenon that did not exist when the switch took place. Nice watch.
