We are stardust...

A couple of friends from TZ-UK popped round for dinner last night. We had quite a laugh, actually, and there were a lot of nice watches changing hands albeit there was always an unspoken intention to make a trade with two of them.

The one I had my eye on was a full-set 1985 Triple 6 that had been hanging around on SC over there for a while now. It's a stardust dial - marmite, I know, but prized amongst vintage Rolex collectors - and as I thought I would I found it difficult to resist. In fact, I didn't quite manage to resist it and it's now joined the rest of the old boys in the LTF collection. I really like it, and although I have both the original and another black insert together with a virtually new bracelet this is how it'll be worn. It's quite something in the metal and whilst I don't think I've managed yet to do it justice under the lens these will do for now. When the sun comes out, though...

That's really nice! I believe that on VRF you mentioned that the bezel is heat treated to make it look that way. Hard to get nature to cooperate to replicate the effect but anyone have any experience in modifying (for personal use of course) bezels to look like that?

Yes, I think it was oven-baked, which seems to be the method of choice for most who've tried it.

A strap change, so I thought Id try to capture the dial... impossible to do it justice, though
