Some members here who are mostly into vintage watches consider a plexi crystal to be the vintage benchmark.

Yes, I thought it might be a little arbitrary.

In a nutshell, based on many threads regarding this subject, I'll try and sum it up based on what many have considered vintage Rolex, although there is no definite answer and many do not agree on what is vintage. Again, the listed items below are arbitrary and not agreed on by everyone:

1) At least 25 years old, 30 years old, 40 years old 50 years old etc.
2) acrylic crystal
3) matte dial on the sport watches
4) sapphire crystal, matte dial 16800 Submariner
5) GMT II 16760 with sapphire crystal
6) Zenith movement Daytonas
6) Misc other 1980 models
7) Any discontinued model

My definition of vintage are the mid-1980's models and older Rolex- to include the sapphire crystal 16800 and 168000 Submariners. My list would also include all 16750 GMT models and the sapphire crystal GMT 16760 (aka the Fat Lady).

For me plastic glass ... Matt dial saphire are transitional ... But as the man said ... Each to their own ....

I've heard Rolex themselves think more in terms of movt .... As usual ... So a 1575 is vintage ... A 3085 isn't ...

As a wise jedi once said .....you will find that many of the truths we cling to depend greatly on our own point of view.

Plexi, non-quick-set, rivets... the usual culprits!

What if you have a non-quick-set on a watch winder so you don't have to reset the date when the vintage piece makes it into your rotation? Are you okay, or just a different kind of wimp?
