Store closing sale - fine print

So I'm walking through the skyway on my lunch break past the local AD and see a giant sign saying "Store Closing sale, 60% off nothing less than 30% off".

How could I not stop in and see if that Hulk Submariner that I've always wanted and is never discounted was on sale. I walked strait to the rolex case and asked if the rolexes were part of the store closing sale. Of course they were not. If you read the fine print of the signs they have plastered all over the downtown area you can see. On my way out I double checked the sign and couldn't help but snap a picture of the ultra fine print

Sure, they have to exclude it from the event, but it doesn't stop them from being able and willing to deal on what they do have. They just can't advertise as such...

Thought I remembered reading that Rolex won't let ADs sell watches higher than their MSRP, but they were allowed to discount. I guess they can't advertise any discounting?

RF Moeller is a fine AD, and is impacted by Neiman Marcus moving out of downtown Minneapolis, therefore their store closing in the adjacent Gaviidae Commons.

But I have had that particular SeaDweller on my wrist, and fervently hoped for the sale to price to apply to all items Rolex!! I feel your pain!

Reward yourself, tell them you'll accept 29% discount!

Years ago I worked for an AD... not allowed to discount at all. As an employee, I got 40% off ANYTHING I wanted in the store, but I had to pay full retail if I wanted a Rolex ... my boss said he would help me out and give it to me tax-free if I wanted, but I already had one so never took him up on it.

But I haven't worked there in over a decade.

I doubt that your employer had to sell at full retail. The employer can do whatever he wants, he just chooses not to discount Rolex to his employees, probably because he thinks/knows he can get retail for it from someone. If you had wanted to buy one of the more expensive ( and harder to move) Rolex's my guess is that he would have been willing to negotiate it with you. On the other hand, if you wanted a SS Sub he wants full price because he knows he can get it.

The policies that Rolex has in place to prevent discounting is one of the reasons they have such a good resale value.

It's a double edged sword, but I prefer it that way.

I have to laugh. This reminds me of earlier this year when Folks were all excited about select AD closing and hoping for fire sales on Subs. Come on.

There were plenty of Air Kings and Date Justs with ugly dial / bezel combos on discount ... But not much else.

If an AD wanted to liquidate Rolex inventory he would have other channels for popular watches. He would not ever have to "give" Subs, Daytonas, Sea Dwellers or GMTs away

I should mention even with this fine print nonsense I still like this AD. They let me try on anything I want, clean my bracelet, pressure test, offer me drinks etc....and I've never bought anything there.

They did offer me a discount on a 40mm Expy II once (without me asking) so I think they do discount SOME things.

Just thought that sign was funny and thought I should post a picture
