Long Term Storage "Position"

Hello TRF,

I completed a search, however was unable to find an answer to my question, it's a quick one.

I recently acquired a few Oakley Watch Vaults which leave the watch in a permanet crown up or down position, but never flat. Is it okay to leave a watch in this position for one week, two, or even more? I know it may seem silly, but is there any worry that the oils will pool to one side of the watch, or should I flip it occassionally?

Thanks

CPT

Pretty sure you can leave however you'd like. If you're going to leave it for say a year, the general piece of advice I've seen is to give the watch a 40 turn wind once a month or so.

Thanks MJ, that leads to my next question. If I were to leave it for six months, nine, or a year due to deployments, then what?

Don't worry... it'll be fine in any position, even for months and months.

They sometimes sit in ADs cases and safes for a year or more with no harm.

It isn't an omelette, it'll be fine.

Seriously, watches (especially expensive gold models) sit in one position at ADs for many months until sold, with no adverse effect.

The oils used are minute. Don't worry about it.

Next question is. Are you pulling the crown out to stop the watch? Have seen this many times on pictures but cannot find any reason for it...

In pics its probably to make for a photo at a specific time, there's no point in pulling the crown out to store it, it'll run down on its own.

For Rolex mechanical movements in storage, it saves you 40 winds when putting it back on

For an Oysterquartz (or any other quartz), it saves your battery life

Thanks! Yeah I felt it strange pulling the crown out, only would allow outside moisture to enter (hell, I live in Hong Kong, I wouldn't do it anyway).

Thanks for clarification!
