I'm have timing OCD, time everything from eggs and pasta, to dog walks to wait times in the Doctors office, anything and everything, and really don't get some of the critics. When compared to the Speedmaster Pro which I wore for over 30 yrs. it takes a couple of seconds longer, if that, to read my black SS Daytona. Big deal, I get to admire it a little longer. I still own the Speedy, but always reach for the Daytona. It's look, feel, finish, quality is quite a cut above the Speedmaster imho, and I still love the "Moon" watch, and am by no means putting it down, and yes, it's can be read at a glance, sub-dials included. What about all the "Skeleton" watches out there, or dress watches with skinny little hands and no lume ? Are they useless too ? Rant over. |

I think Rolex should strongly consider addressing the need to design a watch for BBQ related activities and specifications. I leave the name to your imagination

Timing the BBQ and parking meters is as serious as I usually get with the rotating bezel function of Subs/SDs and GMTs.
As much as I love the Daytona, it is really not about the chronograph function as much as it's place in the history of Rolex sports watches. |

Not specific to a Daytona, but having the chrono start capability just a pushbutton away, no looking required, is nice. You can keep eye contact with people and not break anyone's attention span, do it under the table, etc. Sounds dumb but I like having it so handy. Even a G-shock or diver timer bezel watch can't do that.

You guy's at the track timing yourselves with your watch must not be going fast enough to do that :p hah jk... I use a track mate though, ultra accurate and does the work itself plus data logs!
Anyway as for the watch? I think we all like to rationalize the features/complications of our pieces, but out of all of the people I know, you may use the chrono a few times as function then it's like agh forget it! |

Don't use the chrono much... The feature is just a toy on my Daytona. But who cares? It's an awesome looking/functioning watch. Reason enough to go get one!

I don't think anyone who buys a Daytona buys it for the chrono function.
Before I got the white dial version, the explorer ii 40mm polar was to me the prettiest white dial ever, and more functional. But the D simply overwhelms it. In terms of fit and finish, comfort, style, x-factor. The chrono in the D is a bonus to a watch that already speaks for itself. To ask if it is an useful watch is really besides the point. |

I find the Daytona a very stylish looking chrono, but "useful"?... Not in my opinion!
Those darned screw-down chrono pushers kill any spontanous timing, plus as said the subdials aren't exactly highly legible.

Chrono always good for billing clients. And as mentioned, they don't even see you start the timer...!

I used my Daytona as a lap timer once in a while.
