214270 Explorer for Dad's 65th
After months of research and AD visits I finally pulled the trigger and bought my dad an Explorer I 214270 for his 65th birthday which is in the next couple of weeks. I think this is the perfect watch for him, not too flashy, classic yet sporty enough to suit his personality (he's a golf shirt and khakis/jeans kind of guy). He has huge wrists too, so the updated size on this model will work well over the traditional 36mm version.
I nearly bought one off this forum from a very trusted seller, but living in Canada the 18% watch import tax (regular 13% + the extra 5% watch import), would have brought me close to AD prices. In the end I found a dealer in the Toronto area that gave me 20% off and I jumped on it. Thanks again to this forum for all the tid bits. I'll take pictures when we present dad the watch. |

Can't think of a nicer gesture, I'm sure your father will be blown away by it.

You did it right! Any of the Explorers from the 34mm 5500 to the 39mm 214270 are perfect gifts.

Thanks everyone. I have one question though...Is the AD supposed to provide me with the hang tag that had the price on it? I asked for it and they said that gets sent back to Rolex??

Love my 214270, nice choice. You get the classic case shape with the newer bracelet, clasp, lume & movement.
I made the same decision to buy a new one rather than preowned at a small % discount. |

Great choice - hope he loves it!
No, it doesn't get sent back to Rolex - but you don't really need it - just a bit'o plastic...
