16613 vs 116713

Hello all,

Going to look at a 16613 TT 'Bluesey' Sub and a 116713LN TT GMT Master II this afternoon.

I went to an AD recently and tried the 116613LB but it really didn't do it for me - the blue just wasn't quite right since I grew up with & loved the deep metallic 16613 blue. So I've tracked down a 16613 to check out instead.

So here are the details:

- 16613 - 2005 - $7,300
- 116713 - 2007 - $8,600

Although I could of course buy an early 16613 and save $1,500+ I have to have the gold thru the buckle and want as few external holes as possible. GMT is a great deal, about as cheap as I'll find i'd think.

So anyway, please let me know what things I should look out for in making my decision. So far I've considered:

- functionality of GMT, 2/3 timezones will be used
- cost today, not that much in it... but a little cheaper to buy 16613!
- what will suit my collection better? I already have WG DJ2 & YG DJ2.
- resale value - which will hold value better?

Thanks for any input to help with choosing between the 2.

JD

This would be an extremely difficult choice for me as well. The GMT is such a handsome watch, and the advantages of the new bracelet and clasp would make a very hard argument against the compelling blue hue of the 16613.

If it helps at all, since acquiring my M serial I haven't reached for anything else since. I am addicted to the dial.

I own both (Submariner and GMT II). And I can say, both are wonderful watches...

But if you want instant recognition, choose the bluesy....

If you want more complicated look of dial, choose GMT II....

Resale value? Both are Rolex, so they'll hold re-sale value very well....

Regards,

I am probably bias in this question but the TT sub is, IMHO, one of the classiest looking watches Rolex makes. I think every watch collection should have one. I do agree with you that the ceramic blue color does not look as good as the traditional blue like the one you are buying.
Good luck making your decision and post up some wrist shots when you buy one.

Thanks for the comments. I went there and I loved the 16613 a lot, that blue is so beautiful.

But as soon as the watch went on my wrist it was easy, the 116713 just felt 'right'. I love it when that happens! So 116713 it will be and I can pick up a 16613 later on as part of the 'collection'.

Will post some pics when I get it, though may be a little delayed due to xmas hols.

I love the 16613 but I must say I have never looked back since buying the 116613 I love the new bracelet , the case, the ceramic bezel, and the rolex engraving on the ring.

116713 - looks great, has GMT hand, and better bracelet.

Oh yeah, everything of the 116613 is a huge upgrade I think. just that blue doesn't do it for me like the 16613 does! Difficult choice between those 2.

At least for me I can just choose GMT and avoid the dilemma

Unless the blue Sub is really calling to you, I'd go with the GMT and here's why:

I prefer brushed center links to PCL's given a choice. Since the GMT comes with PCL's even in the stainless, it is the better candidate between the two if I'm looking for a TT watch. Plus, the GMT by it's nature, heritage, and function, lends itself a little better to being dressed up than the Sub, i.e. pilot or world traveler versus scuba diver.

If I get the TT GMT and later want to add a Sub I'd get the stainless and have the BCLs that I prefer. If I get the TT Sub and later want to add a stainless GMT then I'm stuck with PCLs.

For the same reasons, if you were going SS rather than TT, then I'd go with the Sub. But since you are going TT I'd get the GMT.

Good luck with your decision.

Good choice.

I am lucky to have both and I wear the GMT way more than the Blue Sub.
