Authentic Pepsi Bezels
Hi Guys -
Is there any way of knowing whether a "pepsi" GMT has the original Bezel on it compared to say one that has been converted over? I presume a lot of bezels out there are not original Rolex parts, given the low cost you see the bezels selling for on eBay etc... I'm tracking a few Pepsi GMT's on eBay at the moment with all the usual paperwork to prove authenticity etc - but is there any way to verify whether the bezels were swapped out, if so - whether these are authentic? Thanks chaps. |

The font is never as crisp on the aftermarket and knockoffs from what I have seen. Subs typically have bad pearls, so that's a give away, but gmts can be tougher. So yea, the font, and buy the seller.
Good luck N8

Genuine bezel inserts are not expensive to chance even when bought direct from Rolex.

Think this one is genuine?
http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI....m=150960265429 What got me really suspicious was the "spare" black insert in the image. Very unusual to have a black insert unless it was swapped out I'm guessing... Unless the guy didn't want the pepsi insert.. Which is unlikely... |

Just curious, are the authentic Pepsi bezels worth more than the all black bezel?

The parts are same $ to replace with Rolex genuine - but getting a matched original vintage Pepsi GMT will fetch more at resale today. However, tastes could change and next year it swings to Coke or Root Beer, etc.

BTW, I am told reliably that Rolex now asks indie watchmakers with parts accounts to send serial # when ordering a replacement GMT bezel insert. Of course they know what was sent out because they have the original build sheet.
For the rest of us we have to rely on things like style # and bezel variations. For example, a 16710 D serial # may look different than an earlier or later one. See below screen shots from a known genuine one listed last year...

Now, inserts all cost about $90 at your local AD. You can but a coke and change it over to a pepsi for less than $100.
