Stewie I suggest you try asking some bona fide "Patek-aholics" on Timezones Patek forum I would be very interested in their replies...

I think it's safe to say that, much like with automobiles, the looks of a watch are purely subjective to the individual. For some, the PP's are spectacular, for others, not so much so. I happen to think many Patek's are amazing looking and beautiful examples of watchmaking, but do not begrudge those who think otherwise. It's good to have so many choices.

different strokes for different folks they say. Patek may not be your cup of tea but you cannot discount their technical prowess, or exceptional quality. My SD is my favorite watch but I can appreciate a Patek or AP or L.U.C. It does not mean i like my SD any less they are different animals entirely.

I stumbled on the stupid thing... I stopped at the local jewelry store that happens to sell Patek and mentioned to my normal salesperson that I would buy a Nautilus in aheart beat if they ever got one in. She went and pulled the 5711 out of the vault, as they had gotten it in THAT morning (Saturday). Since I had purchased my Sub Date from her, she said I could have first shot at it. Otherwise on monday morning they were going to start calling the 9 people they had on their list for the 5711. It would have been gone in minutes. I had a hell of a decision to make in an hour. That's a LOT of dough.
In the end, I HAD to buy it. It's too rare and the stars aligned for me to not get it. The cool thing is, they are going for $3,000 more now than I paid for it, so if I ever want to get rid of it, it should not be a problem. But I will never give it up. I love it. Now I want an LV Sub. And a stainless DateJust. And a Panerai. And another Patek. (this one is platinum and happens to only cost $45,000 ) I could spend ALL my money on watches... |

IMO Patek & Vacheron C are probably the top two watch makers in the world.
Some of their complication watches are simply amazing. Rolex does make fine watches, but as far as complications go, no comparison. If you ever get a chance, take a look at some of the Pateks out there. The movements are pure works of art. I fell in love with one, had day, date, year AND it tracked all the month's dates properly, including leap years. The 60k price tag kept it out of my line up. Too cool, considering I have to adjust my date watches when there are NOT 31 days in a month.

No problem my friend you are just as entitled to your opinion as anyone else... i can think of a few people on here who would agree nothing compares to the Rolex... the people on the Patek forum are just very knowledgeable on the brand and could give you tons of info!
