Blue Ceramic Submariner

Hi all, while the Blue Submariner retails at $38,000 in my country. I was just wondering if it is available in stainless steel?

You have to go gold if you want blue.

Then it is possible if I buy a black submariner and I change the bezel and dial to blue instead?

It can and I believe has been done, but it is for all intents and purposes logistically and financially prohibitive.

It would be difficult to source the parts (short of buying a WG Sub!), you'd need someone experienced and with the equipment to change ceramic bezel inserts and Rolex RSC probably wouldn't share the same enthusiasm for it come service time!!

I doubt anyone will say this here, but TAG Heuer just redesigned their Auqaracer line with deeper depth ratings an new ceramic bezels. Styling has ques from the Sub and the Planet Ocean. You CAN get all SS with the smurf blue. It is a very nice look. Prices in around $2.5k. Quite a bargain when you are after that particular look. I personally love the two-tone blue and yellow gold.

That watch is my favorite Rolex. The color blue is the best. Don't think I will ever be able to get it.

Not officially from Rolex factory, but the bezel and dial can be purchased and swapped out on a SS Sub. People have done it here, and there was even a blue SS version being sold by a very reputable dealer here on TRF a few months back for a bit of a premium.

The downsides to it are:
- the blue dial and bezel are difficult to obtain and costly
- probably need a watch expert to swap them out for you and seal the case properly
- if you need service done (through RSC) you either need to swap dial/bezel back to black or RSC will and charge you for the new pieces (or might not service it at all?)
- it will be considered a frankenwatch, since its not factory original (some care)

hope any of this info helps

good luck

That's the nicest I've ever seen the Smurf blue appear in a photo.

Do I understand correctly that the only way to get a Smurf dial in China is all-gold? If not, $38,000 sounds a bit high for a two-tone...

Always best to get the real deal..... Although they say imitation is the sincerest form of flattery ......

Although you'll have a "shark" if you just replace the bezel with a blue one from a Smurf ...... Or Blue Angel as I prefer to call mine......
