Another update and a first personal job...

Thank you so much guys, it's always great to share my progression with people who have a passion for my soon-to-be job!

For those of you who complimented my tools, I must say I was quite surprised when I learned we were going to make some as well. Funny thing is, although people find it impressive that we work with so many small parts a lot of them are actually amazed by the tools we create and the fact that we actually use them. It does help you to become a DYI person.

Well guys I have some bad news! I wanted to continue working on my watch today during my lunch break when I realized that the shock protection system doesn't have any spring on it. Rather, it has this.



Notice the big red arrows I put on this picture, they show two dots which are actually screw tips. The heads of those screws are on the other side, underneath the bridge. To have an access to them I must take the hairspring off the bridge, which is something I am not ready to do yet. This has been told to me by one of my colleagues who is about to finish his formation, he told me he had to do this once while working on a vintage ladies' watch and since it was old the hairspring (which was in a bad condition) broke, he told me to be careful about that. Since I'm going to have a class about hairsprings at some point I preferred to be patient and put this project on hold for now, I will service it properly once I'll know how to have access to all the parts that need to be cleaned.

In the meantime, I am now starting a class about metal heat treating, this includes quenching steel and heating it until it reaches certain colors (yes, blue is one of them! ).
