Anniversary sub Dallas Craigslist
Seems too good to be true. I'm not familiar enough with model to pick out the "tells" (and not asking they be disclosed). I compared it to pics from a reputable dealer but nothing really jumped out at me. The CL ad pics conveniently have hands covering the text on dial.
Thoughts? http://dallas.craigslist.org/dal/jwl/3589714875.html |

The whole description is an 'image', not text and he/she/it sounds too knowledgeable about the watch to not know the value (he obviously knows the model number and knew to 'cover up' the serial, etc). I am 99.9% positive it is a scam of sorts. He uses an image of description, instead of actual text so that he can post multiple of these and quickly in different Craigslist pages. If you try to put up a similar ad in two different regions or more, Craigslist and will catch and not allow you to post, saying you have already posted something similar elsewhere. By using a picture, he bypasses that security feature. Stay away and report as scam.

As Americandave said, why would he sell it for less than its' worth? That watch could sell for $5K ALL DAY LONG, easily. If it sounds too good to be true, it usually is. I would stay away.

I agree with the poster above who said its probably multiple postings running a large scam. My bet is the watch in the pic is real. The watch sent to you, if you actually receive one, is not real. Edit: I sent him a request for more pics. I'll see where it goes, but I don't think it's legit. Maybe I can have some fun with him though. |

Haha, I'll offer him over his asking price in cash and he can come up to our place so I can inspect it...we'll see what he says!

Here is what I've learned thus far:
I asked him to take a pic of the watch set to certain date and time...he did. In another pic he included the card with what appears to be the full serial. I googled it and nothing came back. He is in Florida. Said he posted it in Dallas while there, but post was only 2 days ago? Why carry a rarely worn watch, box and papers around with you while traveling? Agreed to face to face meeting at AD or other place of my choice. He said he'll only accept PayPal, and said I can make payment while there and he'll hand me watch and accessories. Should I just ask him why so cheap? The plot thickens. |

Is he going to drive to Corpus Christi to meet you at an AD? This is a bizarre sales post. If he goes to Dallas I'd say mboverst's plan would be best to find out what's going on. It's just hard to believe the offer's real. He'd practically get that from a dealer for the watch. On the other hand, if it is genuine, someone's going to make an easy $2 grand off of that one! |

Wow good finds everyone. Definitely the same pictures. I can't figure out the scam here (other than it obviously is one). He sent me pics of the watch set to the date and time of my choosing. I guess maybe he has a file of photos set to different times/dates and he got lucky?
He also agreed to meet at an AD and accept PayPal, which we all know is very buyer friendly. Strange scam, but one nonetheless. Beware! I think I will let the baiting continue. Maybe get him to meet me at an AD in Orlando today? I'm in South America at the moment... |

Update: I'm in the process of scheduling a meeting with him for tomorrow at an AD in Orlando. I'm in South America so I don't think I'll actually make it.

Maybe ask him to put your username in addition to a specific time and date? Also are you sure it's the same watch when he does it?
