Submariner Bi-Metal 116613LB New !!!!!

Just added to my collection with this superb watch.
Amazingly its heavier than my 2008 Sea Dweller by some way. 171grams.

Is this due to the solid centre links in the bracelet?
Is Gold heavier than steel ?
Is the new Submariner case bigger ?

Got my watch from a super chap called Grant at Top Notch Watches in UK.
Not at all pushy in the sale, and 100% trustworthy in the part -ex deal i did with my old 16610 Sub.

Anyone out there bought from Grant ?
His prices are superb compared to Rolex RRP.

Congrats on the TT Sub!

Gold is heavier than steel. So the extra weight of the TT compared to the Sea Dweller could be because of the combination of solid links AND the extra gold.

I think the latest submariner case is the same size as the older sub case, however the lug and crown guards are larger giving a "chunkier" look.

Enjoy the watch!

First off, congrats ~ The Blue Sub is always a stunner!
And yes, gold is A LOT heavier than steel. Solid center links add to the weight, but the Maxi Case is still more or less ~40 millimeters across compared to the older case.

Congrats on a way cool piece. Gold is definitely heavier than stainless steel but unfortunately not as hard, so those PCLs(polished center links) can pick up scratches rather easily if you're not careful. The center links are solid on the newer bracelets adding to the heft. The case still has the same width as the older subs with the only differences being the lugs and crown guard have a more "even" or blockier appearance as opposed to the lugs sloping downward sort of reminiscent of a horn and the more triangular crown guards.

Congrats on a beautiful watch.

As far as the weight goes I'm going against everyone and claim that a kilo of steel weighs exactly the same as a kilo of gold.

To support my statement above I just made a scientific experiment and weighed a kilo of each and low and behold, they did weigh exactly the same.

So there you have it and I'm glad to finally put the myth that gold is heavier then steel to rest.
