Removing links in the braclet
Hey,
I just received a 2nd hand Explorer 36mm, which I'm loving so far. The bracelet is a little big for my thin wrists so I want to get some links removed to make it smaller. I was wondering, as an issue of intelligent ownership, is that something I could get done at any watch shop or should I take it into a Rolex store/dealership? I.E. should I 'go pro' with it for safety (aka workmanship) issues? I don't know much of the tech but the bracelet is a fliplock clasp and has the covers to the spring bars, no paper clips in the sides to remove the strap easily. |

Well if you can use a screwdriver you can remove a link its very very easy to do.

Welcome and congrats on your classic Explorer 1. :thumbsup
If you're just interested in removing a link or two all that's needed is a small jewellers type 1.6m screw driver. If any permanent links have to be removed a good independant watch repair or RSC is called for. For spring bar removal a 6111 or 6767f spring bar tool, some patience, and masking tape is all thats needed. Good luck and enjoy that Explorer ! |

DIY next time maybe. Any decent watch shop can do it - just ask them to show and tell. See if they use a small dab of Locktite when reinstalling the screws. Then ask what size screwdriver they used.
You'll be ready for the next time

Sweet, will do, thanks for the advice - get a pro to do it this time, so I have piece of mind re: safety. But learn it and do it myself in future!
