Can't get much better than this - 1958 GMT 6542
I saw this on ebay today - a vintage GMT 6542 with original parts and accessories. The price is quite extraordinary too!

John--saw it and the 6542 is one of the coolest IMHO. This one belongs to a friend of mine Trent C. Thanks for posting!

My grail, literally! I'll end up with a DRSD before I ever get close to one of those, but what a remarkable model and the history behind them is just as rich. Could you imagine being a fortune 50 in these days and ask rolex to build you a specific reference that " made sense in the the horological industry" . I wonder what their reaction would be in these times?
Ken, just saw your post. How about hooking me up and ask your buddy if I could wear it for a week. I promise to give it back .......lol. |

Trent has quite a collection. Never met him but I know he has a great collection. The price is over the top though, at least that is my opinion.

What a watch! The coolest of the cool. I would love to see Rolex reintroduce a bakelite-esque luminous 24-hour bezel on a modern GMT. I make do with a 1675 with an aftermarket bezel.

He took it on consignment from someone if I remember correctly. Box looks right to me though from all of the ones specific to 6542 that I have seen. As for guarantee papers--they are what they are and one never knows but this was type that came with watch during that era as you know. Cheers,

He is expensive so it is not true. I asked him if transporting a Submariner to Sweden, he wants 650 USD, crazy .... Standard cost transportation, about 200gr. US-Europe = 100 USD
